a review of 灰影人

I have a complicated relationship with the action genre. On the one hand, a good number of all time favorite movies for me are action movies (Baby Driver, Mad Max Fury Road, the Fast and Furious franchise). On the other hand - I am not actually sure I get a ton out of the bread and butter gun and fist fights. They just kind of glaze over me. They're the thing to sit through while you get to the beats of the fight or the plot that are actually interesting. As a result, I think I become quite deferential to the opinions of others, whether thats letterboxd or my friends. I don't think it is offensively bad in any significant way. Chris Evans' dialogue was ridiculous but that is about it. Ryan Gosling was mostly just playing himself, which is fine - serviceable. There was even some details which were outright good! Having the girl wear ear plugs, the bit with the not loaded gun, the wall bang (you can tell someone who worked on this played R6S), but theres nothing to really sink your teeth into. This movie is perfectly entertaining, but its not interesting. At least John Wick (2014) had aura. One of those movies that makes me want to eschew ratings because Ive given significantly better movies similar or worse scores.
