Jalal's magnum opus exploding the dichotomy of "nationalism" and "communalism." The first half of the book has some wonderful analysis of historical particularities of the 19th century which undermines conventional frameworks. The second half (post-Khilafat) goes into tremendous detail, which of course is her specialty, but it does get tedious.
