四架飞机坠落后，还有一家首尔航空因为语言不通问题，美军差点误解并拦截，好在飞机按指令安全地降落在加拿大机场；整个美国航空迅速瘫痪，全体停飞数天，还有一些分流到加拿大去；原来美国政府自导自演的阴谋论在美国民间里也很流行，比如大楼被飞机撞击后不可能那么快倒塌，肯定有人事先放了炸药，实际上是因为飞机燃料泄漏并烧穿钢筋。

拉登一开始否认负责这次恐怖袭击，但后来认责；Bush 可能为了泄愤，莫名其妙地入侵和 Al-Qauda 毫不相干的伊拉克，结果十年后民主化失败，留下烂摊子而去，有五十万伊拉克人死亡；美国政府还推出了大规模监听并有侵犯公民隐私之嫌的爱国者法案，虽然联邦法院驳回了一些，剩下的法案还是落实并持续到今天；机场安检也全面升级了一波，也带动了很多其他国家跟进，于是直到今天再也没有发生过第二个九一一袭击事件。
