La La Land (2016)

that this film solidified Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as the last great on-screen couple is one thing. (seriously, I can't think of another duo with such incredible chemistry) that damien chazelle somehow nails every decision with such confidence and precision is infuriatingly inspiring. and justin hurwitz's score is still one of my favorites of the decade, if not all time. still a masterpiece. one day i'll find it in me to write about the darker layers of this doomed love story-- especially in the context of both whiplash and babylon.
