a review of 吓破胆

only very technically PG which is kind of amazing. also, LOVED that final shot for somereason. i first learned about this movie about 3 years ago from an image on Shudder and, finally, I watched it. the wait was so worth it. absolutely love these late 70s/early 80s proto slashers because you can see the tropes forming but also getting some wild experimentation both in tone and rules. this, for example, is a zany paranormal slasher that rips off Texas Chainsaw Massacre but throws in a Leatherface with Telekinetic powers as a treat. there's even flavors of Giallos of the time. Tourist Trap maybe has more of an influence on the early 00's House of Wax remake than its original source. It's also not hard to imagine Rob Zombie borrowing much of his House of 1000 Corpses from Tourist Trap. this is a long way of saying this is a classic. and a quieter yet profound influence on the genre, as much as TCM and Halloween 1978 are.
