a review of 月影杀痕

A clumsy True Detective with Time Travel slapped in there for spiciness. A lot of good ideas and characters that are never properly explored and, the biggest problem-- it feels too long for the story it was telling, yet too short for the story it could've told. While I think there's a really good movie hidden here, there's definitely a great series somewhere between all these ideas and characters. It would've benefited from a limited series format that allowed all the characters to fully develop, ideas to get fleshed out and lead to a richer, more satisfying journey overall. I have a feeling that at some point, this was a series idea. it certainly plays like a 2hr sizzle reel of a 6 hour show. That being said, Boyd Holbrook is a certified lead. He did a lot of heavy lifting on a script that had a lot of problems. Give him more to work with and you have a quality performance waiting to happen.
