a review of 猫王

idk if i can call this "good" or "bad", but it's definitely some quality baz luhrmann madness. i don't think i've been as affected by a shot in a movie in a very long time as i was with those medium-low stage shots as elvis led an an increasingly euphoric crowd to pure glitter ecstasy.  the shot is fucking beautiful and hits. and then baz employs it a half dozen times more and every single time it hits the same.  then it remembers it's a biopic and yanks you out of your own illusion that this may be a worthwhile tribute to elvis.
