Fantastic film with superb acting, but Diehl stole the show (even with his Russian-dubbed lines). So many layers to this story! I think I'll have to find an English translation of the novel to read. The anarchist themes make me think of Makhno and Goldman and all the other anarchist thought leaders of Bulgakov's time who fought the good fight and lost. Definitely left me feeling sad at the end 😢
