Rave Racer [Game] IGDB
1995-07-16
genre: Racing platform: Windows / PlayStation / Arcade developer: Namco publisher: Namco
Rave Racer is an arcade racing game that can be played by two people per cabinet for up to eight players total when up to four of them were linked together. It is the third arcade title in the Ridge Racer series and the follow-up to Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer 2 - and it added three new tracks to the original one, twelve new songs to the original five, force feedback steering and improved car and racetrack graphics.

I dunno if this has something to do with it being an arcade game, but the handling is leagues better than the first two. It's still not great, mainly because it's far from realistic, but it's at least responsive. The collision is still terrible though. Hitting something is like playing pinball.

The visuals continue the series' tradition of being amazing, but this time the music is too.

I almost liked this game, but then I realized I can't win a single race. Somehow at the very start all opponents leave me behind. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. But then just as I start catching up with them the timer runs out. Timers in racing games are just a terrible idea altogether. This game reminds me of Outrun 2006, but at least that game was way more forgiving. This one is just impossible.

Also, it only has 4 tracks and seemingly one car (unless I just couldn't figure out how to select another. But in my defence, I have the Japanese version of the game, and the configs in MAME are needlessly confusing). Which really means I'm not missing out on much.

NeoDB keeps pulling my bio from Bluesky because I use the Bluesky profile to log into it. So I have to address it here:I mainly use NeoDB for games. I don't use Bluesky much for anything.
