a review of 女巫

This movie is very unsettling and left me with an uneasy feeling in my gut. It is a masterfully done retelling of what I assume would have been a story that pilgrims would tell around the fire to keep people in line. It kept me feeling tense and anxious all the way through to the resolution. It finds a way to look beautiful and bleak and terrifying all at the same time. The actors did a wonderful job and the music helps set the tone and amp up the tension. One thing I slightly disliked was how difficult the characters were to understand at times although I understand that this was supposed to be period accurate (subtitles helped). I also wish the audio was a little more balanced; I found myself frequently increasing and decreasing the volume.
