Fight Club - Review

I'm having a difficult time forming an opinion on this movie. It resonates with my on a very personal level. I find myself struggling with many of the same issues that Norton's character does: finding purpose as a young male in a meaningless corporate lifestyle, the anger and frustration that comes from being stuck in such a lifestyle, and a desire to break free from the structure that society has imposed on me and live more freely (which is impeded by a number of seemingly insurmountable hurdles). Perhaps the lesson the movie is trying to teach is that someone like myself doesn't need to completely self-destruct their life and release their feelings through violence to escape the lifestyle and societal pressures they despise, or they risk becoming similar to the thing they hated to begin with. So, at the same time that I feel very personally and emotionally attached to the feelings of our main character(s), I still feel like the movie is incredibly heavy handed and very edgelordy to the point that I kind of cringe at some parts. Nonetheless, it's still a solid, well-done move that is clever and though-provoking at times. Definitely a difficult movie for me to decide on a rating.
