迪拜-加尔各答-安达曼群岛-曼谷-巴厘岛-巴布亚新几内亚-夏威夷，虽然作者不停地强调此行的重心是巴布亚的丛林深处，读完感觉是醉翁之意不在酒。当然也可能不是故意这样的，越是想要用力去写什么反而什么也写不出来，不过相比丛林里的探险，前面那一系列的旅程更像是在现代丛林里冒险，就像《神曲》里天堂虽然极尽华丽庄严但是却远比地狱和炼狱让人乏味。Lawrence还是对曼谷和泰国感情最深，那一段的文字写得精彩篇幅也很长。不过毕竟这次丛林之行不是纯粹意义上的探险，更像是高端定制游，其实这也是本书讨论的一个主要现象。旅行和传统意义上人文探险的界限越来越模糊了。Lawrence的非虚构作品看完总觉得不过瘾，总想听他再多说说一路的所见所闻和感想，哪怕是细枝末节也行。
