构图和人物造型的表现主义风格具有明显的第五代导演特色，可以看出积极的美学追求。战争仅仅是模糊的背景，像是在一个空旷的舞台上表演抽象的戏剧，故事不重要，所以就表现得不够细致，重要的是讨论伦理问题。大而化之，不食人间烟火，可能也是一部分第五代导演容易出的问题。
