On the morning of September 11, 2001, Paul McCartney was in New York City on an airport runway waiting to fly to Britain. As he absorbed the news of the unfolding tragedy, he wondered, “What can I do?” The answer, of course, lay in music.
McCartney reached out to master documentarian and long-time friend Albert Maysles, inviting Maysles to document his personal experiences on 16mm black and white film, a format seldom used in the digital age but of proven endurance and artistic quality. Over several weeks in October 2001, Maysles’ camera followed McCartney as he prepared for The Concert for New York City, a benefit he helped organize to uplift New York City during this period of uncertainty and vulnerability. The footage went unseen for years, requiring the passage of time to be put in perspective. Now, ten years later, Maysles, his directing partner Bradley Kaplan and editor Ian Markiewicz have emerged with an intimate work that explores the role of art and artists in a time of crisis.

veryone who had any reaction to the incidents that took place Sept. 11, 2001 owes it to themselves to watch this film. It is a non biased reflection and presentation of newscasts, interviews, physical evidence or lack thereof that the American mass media didn't seem fit to force feed its viewers as was done with the images that were literally burned into the minds of horrified viewers. The material contained in this film is shocking, the fact that this information has not brought more media attention is just plain mind numbing.
The events that took place are tragic enough as they were, that so very many questions have gone unanswered and blatantly ignored compounds the situation exponentially. See the movie, listen to the information and decide for yourself, then most importantly...SPREAD THE WORD.

Even though the 1992 Los Angeles riots took place long before the spread of camera phones, they were captured on video from the beginning, or at least from the event that lit the spark: the beating of Rodney G. King by Los Angeles police officers. “LA 92,” one of several documentaries being released to commemorate the riots’ 25th anniversary, takes advantage of the wealth of broadcast and helicopter footage available to assemble a chronological account with a present-tense feel.
The movie, which opens theatrically on Friday and airs on the National Geographic channel on Sunday, begins and ends by drawing a parallel with the 1965 Watts riots, which the news media addressed in strikingly similar language. Apart from overbearing music — the lead-in to the first day of the riots is scored with an orchestra tuning up — the film mostly lets the archival footage speak for itself.

2018 documentary film by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg

THE SUPREME COURT is a four-part documentary series exploring the role of the court throughout American history. From its modest beginnings in the earliest days of the republic to the landmark decision in Marbury v. Madison, and from establishment of the "separate but equal" doctrine in Plessy v. Ferguson to its reversal in Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court has been integral to the course of events in America's history. THE SUPREME COURT, featuring exclusive interviews with Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, tells the story of this most important of legal and political institutions from its inception to the present day.
THE SUPREME COURT originally aired on PBS stations in January and February 2007.
