At Nemunoki, children and young adults with physical, intellectual or familial difficulties are gently encouraged to discover and develop their talents through such activities as painting, music, tea ceremony and dancing.

1984年、ねむの木学園の子どもたちは、世界の障害を持つ人々の芸術祭に招待されニューヨークを訪れた。そこで、ハーレムの子どもたちに出会う。彼らはハーレムに住んでいるというだけで、盗みの疑いをかけられ、子ども同士のけんかで殺人が起きたりするなか、一生懸命何かをしようと努力していた。路上でのブレイクダンスもそのひとつである。ねむの木学園の子どもたちは、ニューヨークを発つ前にハーレムの通りのシャッターに絵を描き、日本での再会を約束してハーレムの子どもたちに別れを告げる。その後、ハーレムの子どもたちは2週間日本に滞在し、ねむの木学園の子どもたちと同じカリキュラムで一緒に生活をする。そして、京都に旅行したり、一緒にお寿司を食べたりしながら、同じ心を感じて共に歌い、踊って楽しく交流した。

Mariko Miyagi is back documenting the activities of disabled children from her own school, Nemunoki. This time, the whole documentary focuses on the healing powers of creativity and drawing.
