A grandfather explains to his grandson that he'll have to take care of his flower garden after he dies. There follows a touching and poetic discussion about losing loved ones and on the marks they leave behind.

Alger, juin 1955. Khadidja a quitté la Kabylie pour rejoindre son grand frère Malek à Alger. Pour ce premier jour en ville, et en attendant d'être inscrite à l'école, elle l'accompagne au marché, où il tient un petit étal de fruits et légumes. Mais la journée ne se passe pas comme prévu : suite à une altercation avec la police, Malek est arrêté. Khadidja se retrouve seule.

Jean’s father is always busy at work, so he spends most of his time with his nanny Yvette and neighbour Michelle. His mother is away but nobody talks about her.
