An Indian prince leaves his world of comfort and riches behind to wander and meditate for six years in search of spiritual enlightenment. Siddartha (Cojoin Hong) turns his back on the old religion when people are starving needlessly and holy rituals include human sacrifices. During his meditations, he is tempted by erotic dancing women, demons, and the evil machinations of his criminal cousin. Devastate to attain the spiritual perfection and become the Buddha. He travels to convert followers by his kindness and wisdom, gaining a multitude of believers when he stops an elephant from crushing a local priest. Blind swordsman/masseuse Zatoichi befriends a young woman returning home with her baby. When gangsters mistake her for Zatoichi and kill her, Zatoichi determines to escort the baby to its father. He gains the reluctant help of a young pick pocket and together they travel to find the baby's father. But they do not reckon on the father's reaction to their arrival, nor on their own growing feelings for the child.

Also known as The Blind Swordsman's Revenge, this is Zatoichi Versus The Flying Guillotine (1972). Zatoichi is "born Wu Ching Hui, he was kidnapped by pirates as a youth and taken to Japan, where he learned his cane sword skills. He appears to be widely known in China by his Japanese name, but as the film opens he is just returning to China to look up his long-lost brother, Tieh Hou. To his dismay, he learns that the brother has been killed in a sword duel with one Chu Yen Jieh. The grief-stricken prodigal blubbers in mourning and vows revenge."

溝口健二が戦前に撮り上げた女性ドラマの名作のリメイクは、長回しを多用しないテンポある演出で、より大衆性を増した作品に仕上げられた。人気者の祇園の3芸者は、実の姉妹と姉の娘という組み合わせだ。娘役には中村玉緒が扮し、かわいく健気に演じている。彼女たちの元に、姉と離婚したはずのお坊ちゃん育ちの夫が戻ってきたことから、姉妹の間に亀裂が生じる。

The Great White Tiger Platoon was part of the Aizu clan's last ditch efforts to stop the advance of Imperial troops after the fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Meant to be a reserve unit as it was made of the young, 16-17 year old sons of Aizu samurai. Their story is one of the great tragedies of the Boshin War (1868-1869) as they were called into action. Getting cut off from the main body of their platoon, a group of 20 from the 2nd squad retreated to Iimori Hill, where they looked down upon fires surrounding Aizu Castle and thinking that the castle has fallen and all is lost, they choose to die as samurai by committing seppuku. This movie marks the first appearances of Ichikawa Raizo and Katsu Shintaro, who would both go on to become major stars of international renown. A superb rendition of this true story that shows the true honor of the samurai.

明治三十年、東京－－深川の材木問屋の娘・勝山夏子が明石病院にかつぎこまれた。怪我をさせたのは両国のどじょう屋の板前・杉本愛吉で、酔ってふりまわした一升ビンが夏子の足にあたったのだ。夏子の手当をしたのは山ノ井光起という若い医師、彼には華族の娘貞子という婚約者がいた。いつしか光起と夏子は恋しあうようになった。光起の仕事を理解するため、夏子はドイツ語塾に通った。が、そこで身分が違うといじめられた。これを知った愛吉は塾に怒鳴りこんだ。それが原因で夏子はお出入り禁止、光起との交際も禁じられた。しょげる夏子をみる愛吉は、自分の彼女に対する愛を知った。深川の大火で夏子の家は丸焼けになった。病身の父と借財のため、夏子は光起をあきらめる決心をした。歳月は流れた－－芸者になった夏子は小夏と名のり下田に流れていた。彼女を慕う愛吉は、近所の“河伝”に住みこんでいた。金でなびかぬ小夏に“河伝”の親爺が熱を上げ、刃傷沙汰を起し、止めに入った愛吉はクビになった。夏子は小田原に住みかえ、愛吉も後を追った。一日、愛吉の真情を知った夏子は、彼を箱根に誘った。一方、貞子との結婚に失敗した光起は悶悶の日を送っていた。たまたま熱海に行った光起は、夏子の消息を知り料亭相模屋で二人は再会した。その席へ出刃を持った愛吉がとびこんできた。彼は光起の気持を誤解したらしく、いきなり彼に切りかかった。それを止めようとして仲に入った夏子の脇腹にささってしまった。明日は二人で箱根に行くという前夜、愛吉に手をとられながら夏子は寂しく息絶えた。

司馬遼太郎の原作を、「あゝ海軍」の菊島隆三が脚色し、「鬼の棲む館」のコンビ、三隅研次と宮川一夫が、監督、撮影を担当した時代劇。
元亀元年の二月、織田信長の城下町に、見慣れぬ男が現われた。紀州雑賀衆の頭目・雑賀孫市であった。雑賀衆は、三千人からなる日本最強の鉄砲集団で、戦国の大名たちに恐れられている庸兵の一団である。信長は不審に思って、藤吉郎に尋ねたが、藤吉郎にも見当がつかなかった。藤吉郎の妻寧々が探ってみると、彼が先年京で見染めた、足首の美しい女が信長の妹君と知り、ここまで追ってきたのだった。藤吉郎は、信長と計って、織田一族の娘・加乃を“素足の女"に仕上げることにした。その年の春、信長は、越前の朝倉義景を攻めた。孫市は、姫のいる京に近いことと、雑賀衆の値を釣り上げるよい機会と、わずか五人の手兵を連れて一軍に加わった。そして、得意の銃撃戦で、たった半刻のうちに落城させて、信長に鉄砲の威力をまざまざと見せて、舌をまかせた。だが背後の浅井長政が寝返ったため、信長は、藤吉郎に後を託して、京へ引揚げた。藤吉郎は、孫市にも退くよう説いたが、城に留まって、朝倉の追撃隊を散々にけ散らして信長の後を追った。京へ帰った孫市は、偶然の事から姫が偽者だと知り、藤吉郎をなじって、信長・藤吉郎と別れた。紀伊へ戻った孫市を待っていたのは、大阪名山本願寺の僧・法専坊信照だった。近く予想される信長の本願寺攻めに対抗して力を貸して欲しいという。孫市は、反信長軍の総大将にと聞いて心が動いたが、その時はニベもなく断わった。やがて、孫市は、戦いの近いのを知って鉄砲を買いに、堺へ出かけた。そして、鉄砲鍛冶・芝村仙斎の所で、あの“素足の女"小みちに出会った。小みちは、信照の妹で、本願寺信徒であった。さすがの孫市も、小みちに総大将にと強く頼まれては、無下に断わることもできなかった。束縛されることの嫌いな孫市も、小みちのためになら、戦ってもよいと思った。元亀二年九月、孫市は五千人の手兵を連れて本願寺に入った。そして、信長の死まで、実に八年間も、終りのない戦いがくりひろげられることになった。

Blind masseur and master swordsman Zatoichi finds a robbed and fatally wounded pregnant woman, whose baby he delivers before she dies. He takes the baby in search of its father and finds the child's aunt, who is about to be forced into prostitution for want of a payment the dead mother was bringing. Zatoichi determines to save the woman from her cruel fate.

Blind masseur Zatoichi is nursed back to health by a young woman after he is shot by a gang member. Zatoichi, who had come to the village to repay a debt, now feels further indebted. He commits himself to use his amazing sword skills to help the young woman's father, whose river-crossing service is under attack by the same gang responsible for Zatoichi's wounds.

A young intellectual conscientious objector is forced to serve with the Japanese army in Manchuria. He joins with a dim-witted former gangster in an effort to desert by stealing a train.

The story is presented as a voiced-over narrative by Arita (Takahiro Tamura), speaking long after the events of the film. In a remote army base in Manchuria, near the Soviet border, long-serving corporal Arita hates the military and looks forward to the day he may leave. Although a university graduate, he has several times deliberately failed the exam for promotion and thus remains a corporal after four years' service.

政権を握る改憲党内第二派閥領袖・寺西正毅は、現首相、桂重信から政権の禅譲を受け、この秋に首相の座に就くであろうことは衆目の一致するところであった。寺西を裏で支えているのは、夫人である文子と秘書の外浦卓郎である。外浦は財界の世話役である和久宏に、寺西派とのパイプ役として送りこまれ、四年前から寺西の私設秘書となっていた。寺西邸から政治献金のバックペイの金を、和久のもとへ届ける使者として立てられた銀座のクラブ「オリベ」のママ・織部里子が、その金を奪われるという事故を起こした時、警察に手を回して闇から闇に葬ったのも外浦の力であった。前首相・入江宏文が急死し、政局は秋の総裁選に向け、俄かに動き始める。桂がひき続き政権を担当する意思を見せたのを受けて、外浦と和久、そして和久に囲われている里子は京都へ飛び、関西財界の有力者、望月稲右衛門から二十億の融資を引き出した。第三派閥板倉派抱き込みのための工作資金である。桂派と寺西派になる政権争いが、日ごと激しさを増すなか、外浦が和久の経営する東南アジアの会社に招かれてとの理由で突然辞意を表明した。出発間際東大の後輩にあたり、政治家相手の代筆業をしている土井伸行を訪ねた外浦は、土井に個人名義の貸金庫の管理を依頼し、自分にもしものことがあったら、中身は自由に使えと告げる。外浦が外地で自動車事故死したことを新聞で知った土井は、すぐに貸金庫を開けた。中身は、文子と外浦の二年間に及ぶ不倫の恋の記録、文子自筆のラブレターの束であった。板倉派が、次第に奇妙な動きを見せ始めた。川村正明率いる「革新クラブ」に照準を合わせ、かねてから川村が熱を上げていた里子を使って川村を自派の傘下におさめたのである。土井が自宅で惨殺死体として発見された。新聞に過激派の犯行声明が載り、警察は内ゲバ殺人としてこの事件を処理するが、裏で板倉派が動いていた。桂派に寝返った板倉から「あと一期待たないか」ともちかけられた寺西が見せられたのは例のラブレターだった。帰宅した寺西は文子を責めるが、後日、桂を支持することを発表した。そして、第二次桂内閣誕生。寺西邸では、少数の記者を相手に怪気炎を上げている寺西の姿があった。
