A Las Perlass, ville de jeu du Névada, les bandes rivales de Lippy et de Steinberg tiennent les plus beaux établissements de l'endroit. Franck Bradford a engagé comme comique Jeff Burlington, lequel, pour dérider un difficile public, lance chaque soir des attaques verbales contre le casino de Lippy où, dit-il - les jeux sont truqués. Chacun des deux gangs envoie un homme de main afin que, de part et d'autre : soit il cesse ses sarcasmes soit, au contraire, il aura des ennuis s'il ne laisse pas son numéro tel qu'il est. Un certain "Main d'ours" qui n'est autre que Bradford fait attaquer les casinos. C'est Jeff, après avoir été kidnappé par les deux bandes devenues amies, qui démasquera le coupable.

A young boy is hired as a lift attendant in a grand hotel when his mother dies. To fulfill his dream, he takes part in a competition organized by the manager, and wins 1st prize: a two-day stay in one of the princely suites. He wants to share the experience with his young girlfriend, the florist, but discovers that she has betrayed him and returns to her elevator.

A discredited police inspector is given a second chance, in the form of a dangerous assignment. Chosen because of his uncanny resemblance to a Lt. Revere, the inspector impersonates him in order to penetrate a group of mercenaries with orders to assassinate its leader.

Albert is an eccentric inventor of missiles who comes under fire from his investors when his first prototype explodes. Even his sympathetic mistress has her doubts, as Albert lashes out in a verbal tirade condemning those of little faith in his genius.

Renee Saccard is a pampered, selfish young wife of a middle-aged Parisian businessman who falls in love with her stepson but is driven to the point of madness when her husband tricks the stepson into betraying her.

Thérèse is living in a provincial town, unhappily married to Bernard, a dull, pompous man whose only interest is preserving his family name and property. They live in an isolated country mansion surrounded by servants. Early in her marriage her only comforts are her fondness for Bernard's pine-tree forest, which was her primary reason for marrying him, and her love for her sister-in-law and Bernard's half-sister, Anne. The movie recounts in flashback the circumstances that led to her being charged with poisoning her husband.
