Tane, the lady proprietor of an inn for amorous couples, lives there with her three children. When her eldest daughter loses her fiancé due to the fact her mother is a mistress, her despair drives her to become a cabaret hostess.

Yasugoro, goes to live in a quiet town where he falls in love with the priest's daughter-in-law. His does not declare his love because she is married, but he goes on a mission to please her, and is blinded. Then her husband dies and she remarries before Yasugoro can confess his love.

山田洋次が監督デヴューを飾った、シスター・ピクチャーと呼ばれる低予算中編映画の一編。もとは推理小説だった多岐川恭の同名小説をコメディとして映画化。その新人離れした堅実な演出ぶりは、高く評価された。
新築した家の二階を、借金返済のため若い夫婦(平尾昌章，関千恵子)に間貸しするサラリーマン夫妻(小坂一也、葵京子)だが、家賃を滞納気味な下宿人の行動が腑に落ちない。ふたりをなかなか追い出せないでいる夫だが、ある日彼の母親(高橋とよ)が上京し、投宿している間に二階の住民と仲良くなってしまう。
小坂一也の不器用で情けないサラリーマンが同情を誘う。本作ではその情けないサラリーマンを試すかのように、様々な試練が続発する。後年の山田作品に見られる、主人公を試すかのような加虐性が早くも現れている。上映時間56分という尺ながら、きっちりと計算された無駄のない演出は確かに堅実と評されるにふさわしいが、新人らしい弾けたところがないあたりは物足りなさを感じる。この点は山田も後年反省したようだが、その堅実さこそが山田洋次の作家性を牽引したのもまた事実。(斉藤守彦)

今東光の同名小説をもとに、依田義賢が脚色し田中徳三が監督した任侠もの。勝新太郎と田宮二郎のコンビによる本作がヒットしたのを受けてシリーズ化され、全十六作品が製作された。 　無類の暴れん坊として知られる朝吉は、人妻のお千代と温泉へ駆け落ちするが、お千代のヒモの生活に飽きてしまい一人で大阪に帰ってきてしまった。幼なじみたちと再会した朝吉は遊郭へ出かけ、琴糸に惚れてしまう。酔った幼なじみが遊郭からの帰りにモートルの貞という男とトラブルを起こしたため、翌日、朝吉たちと貞が対決することになった。貞はその土地で暴れん坊として恐れられる男だったが、朝吉にこてんぱんにやられてしまう。そして貞は徐々に朝吉とともに行動するようになっていくのだった。

A socially committed film about the feudal state of many Japanese women in 1946. Hiroko Hosokawa, a female lawyer, defends Mrs. Asakura, who suffocated her child in her grief after her husband died penniless following an industrial accident. The prosecutor is Hiroko's sister's husband Kono, who also sent Hiroko's fiance, Yamaoka, to jail for his liberal views during the war. Yamaoka has just been freed, but is seriously ill from his time in prison.
