Gauri, an orphan, is falsely accused of theft and lands up in a reformatory run by Ashok. Due to her rebelliousness, she gets into trouble. But, gradually she comes into her own with Ashok's help.

A woman from a rural family enters into an arranged marriage with a man from the city. Haria lives with his widowed and elderly grandmother at a tea estate and works as Elephant Driver. He has no knowledge of his biological father, as his mother died at the time of his birth. Widowed Radha lives in rural India in the 1960s, along with two sons: Bharat and Puran.
