Nakano Institution is the so-called ‘Spy School’ where many young men are trained to be excellent spies. They erase their names, families, even lovers to bury themselves in training. Jiro, one of the cadets, successfully seize the secret code of English army to pass the final exam. However, he reaches the crossroad when his fiancee Yukiko turns out to be a spy of the enemy.

Namiko is married, but has an infatuation with Ishizuka who runs a nightclub. The businessman is also planning on wrecking the company of Namiko's husband. As personal lives and professional careers intertwine and cross one another including a love triangle dangerously, the affair is taken up a notch following a murder.

In a rural district of Tokyo, the owner of a farm is abandoned by his two daughters who are attracted to the life of the big city.

Akiyama is an intern, disgusted with the noise pollution caused by the bullet trains and the heart attacks that noise has been causing in older hospital patients, plots to disrupt and, in ten days, destroy a unit of the operation. He warns the Japan National Railway, that, if nothing is done to reduce the noise, he will derail a bullet train. Takigawa is the police detective sent to stop him.

このドラマのもとになった事件は、1959年の３月に外国航空会社の日本人スチュワーデスの死体が東京・杉並区の川で発見されたことから始まった。その２ヵ月後の５月に被害者と交際があった外国人神父が重要参考人として事情聴取を受けた。だか、６月になって捜査の途中にもかかわらず、神父は病気療養を理由に突然帰国。事件は疑惑につつまれたまま、永遠に謎となってしまった。原作では、事件を追う刑事を主人公に、この事件からさらに10年前の昭和20年代にさかのぼり、密輸事件に関連させてストーリーは展開していく。今から25年前、1959年、皇太子御成婚の直前に、東京杉並区で外国航空会社スチュワーデス生田世津子（片平なぎさ）の他殺死体が発見された。警察の捜査線上に、世津子と親しかった神父トルベック（ジョン・エクスティン）の名が浮かび上がった。捜査陣の一人、藤沢刑事（宇津井健）の主張で、トルベックを重要参考人として出頭させた。藤沢の訊問に対し、トルベックは全面的に容疑を否定。藤沢は、若い市村刑事（三浦友和）に、10年前の二の舞はしないと決意を明かした。藤沢は、1947年にトルベックの先輩のビリエ神父（ケン・マクドナルド）に、アメリカからの授助物資の横流しの疑いを持った。だが、権力によってモミ消されてしまった。それ以来、ビリエたちの動きから目を離さなかった藤沢は、今回の殺人事件の黒幕をビリエだと信じた。藤沢は、トルベックの追求に全力をそそいだが…。【以上、TBSチャンネル広報資料より引用】

The story is presented as a voiced-over narrative by Arita (Takahiro Tamura), speaking long after the events of the film. In a remote army base in Manchuria, near the Soviet border, long-serving corporal Arita hates the military and looks forward to the day he may leave. Although a university graduate, he has several times deliberately failed the exam for promotion and thus remains a corporal after four years' service.

Kyoko is the third daughter of the Nonomiya family, a very ordinary family. Momoko, the eldest daughter, is married to Ichiro, the president of Mihara Shoji, and Riko, the second daughter, is married to Jiro, the managing director, and they plot to marry Kyoko to Saburo, the third son of the Mihara family. Kyoko is angry at the marriage talk that is being pushed forward without her permission, and declares that she "definitely won't get married," but before she knows it, she begins to become aware of the other person...
