《片腕》（川端康成）：女儿将自己的右臂摘下来交给父亲（平田満 饰），父亲和那个有生命力的手臂将度过一个迷离且难忘的不眠之夜；《叶樱与魔笛》（太宰治）：妹妹小依（徳永えり 饰）病入膏肓，姐姐小良（河井青葉 饰）从旁悉心照料，在这生死的尽头，她们品尝着各自的爱情之果。
《鼻》（芥川龙之介）：平安时代，僧人禅智（松重丰 饰）因长了一个奇怪的大鼻子而备受嘲笑，他最终逃离帝都，来至某个偏远所在。为搭救落水少年，禅智跳入水中，但他的容貌吓坏了男孩，营救最终失败。禅智的恶梦也由此开始；《后天》（室生犀星）：诗人（加濑亮 饰）的孩子在襁褓之中便告夭折，在某次祭拜后，一个少年尾随他回到家中。他自称是诗人夫妇夭折的儿子小平，自此便与他们生活在一起。

作为《妖しき文豪怪談》中的最后一个短片，原作者是日本的诗人及小说家室生犀星。由是枝裕和执导。
