a review of 犹大与黑弥赛亚
First (new) movie I watched in over 1.5 years. It is permeated with revolutionary spirit, from the very first seconds and to the very end. The amount of passion and bitter-sweetness that was present in such events is conveyed so masterfully. I cried tears of awe and melancholy, sometimes both, sometimes I wasn't able to distinguish. It makes everything feel real. Every life and death, every human connection, the love, the hatred. The struggle is palpable. The internal conflict is as pronounced as the external one. I feel that this is a movie we always needed, and it is especially important today. Not just for the black people, but for all of us. Don't really wanna say anything negative about it, but I did feel that it could go deeper, and that it needed more runtime. I hope there's a director's cut somewhere out there. But I actually watched this on a plane, so perhaps on a rewatch it would've had stronger impact. Thus I'm gonna leave this unrated for now. P.S. the "inspired" soundtrack album features songs from Nas, Black Thought and Rakim, which are all bangers.
