Check out this project friends in the bat world have been working on:
"Bat Literature Project (BatLit)—a freely available, versioned, multilingual, and citable digital archive of bat research and bibliographic metadata...providing stable, open access to over 20,000 publications contributed by the global bat research community.'
A new study published this week shows how the evolutionary history of bats dates back 65 million years. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/environment/2026/09/25/wildlife/bat-evolution-study/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #environment #wildlife #bats #evolution #thailand #myanmar #philippines
Folks it is now about an hour until #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party! Best set up a hashtag filter if you want to avoid it.
If you'd like to join in, this week we're continuing our October of Vincent Price movies with THE BAT (1959), a murder mystery featuring money, criminals, and yes, you guessed it, bats!
The flick's available free with ads over on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/351000/the-bat
Or you can download from Archive.org over here: https://archive.org/details/The_Bat.mpeg
In fact, the movie is solidly in the public domain, so you can actually watch it on Wikipedia if you want: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bat_(1959_film)
Any way you slice it, just hit play at the top of the hour and toot along! See you there!

Do any of my central #Florida fedi-friends have a membership or relationship with Bok Tower Gardens by chance? There’s something time sensitive and heinous happening and I could use your support.
Stop reading here if you don’t want details about wildlife in peril.
Tl/dr they had a pest control company “exclude” bats from their historical building, the company botched the job, and hundreds of bats have been trapped in there since Monday 12 Oct, and no relevant authorities are willing to help. There aren’t many left alive at this point, but we have audio from outside that shows there are a few survivors still trapped.
So I’m really hoping I know some members who are willing to let their money talk with some pressure to get them to unseal those exits.
