Kentuckian farmer, activist and writer Wendell Berry died recently. This appreciation included the comment that he had often been called a crank when he first started talking about the damage done by industrialized agriculture. He said he didn’t mind because, ‘a crank is a human-sized tool which when it was turned made revolutions.’
