Citing concerns about DEI, the U.S. Department of Education has halted funding for programs that support students with combined hearing and vision loss in eight states.
“How low can you go?” one advocate asked. “How can you do this to children?”

One of the biggest things people discount in general is uncertainty. Uncertainty takes more from me than just about everything else in my life. It doesn't matter if something makes things better on average if I can't afford to get a bad outcome.
Reminder to people in #Europe and #Canada that there are a lot of #transgender and #disabled people in the US who could use your help right now. There are a few #charities which are going to need some heavy funding over the next couple years (the Trevor Project and ACLU come to mind), and we also have a #MutualAid hashtag right here on Fedi. Please also consider that servers in the US, like this one, are talking about relocating to a safer country, which may change our financials.
If, per chance, you'd like to help a particular transgender disabled moderator who may need to relocate in the next year, my KoFi is at...

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities ♿
On social media, it's important that we consider how disabled people interact with their digital community and make their voices heard.
Something as simple as adding ALT text to your images, or being mindful of ableist language, can help disabled people feel more welcome in this space.
We know it's a long way from perfect, but we want to help the Social Web feel welcoming to all.

Time for a new #introduction post.
Hiya. 👋 I'm Dreadful Sanity aka Mel, a level 47 gamer from Germany. #Videogames keep me basically from going completely crazy and therefore alive. I'm #disabled, suffering from debilitating #migraines most days of the week. I also have #ADHD which means my brain is usually going all over the place. And last but not least, there is some #BPD mixed into the mess that I am. Beware of that.
The games that I usually alternate through are...
#Warcraft
#DragonAge
#MassEffect
#Cyberpunk2077
#TheSims4
#BaldursGate3
Though every now and then I will play something new. Or different.
I think that's all. 👉 👈 😊
I offer 20% off at my Etsy shop for all folks who find me through Mastodon. Code: MASTO20
https://brittbuilds3d.etsy.com
When you use the code, I'll also add a small extra fidget to your order as a thank you for your support.
You don't have to disclose who you are if you don't want to!
When I see the code on the order, I'll know how you found me.
Here are a few examples of the custom fidget toys I craft for my store:

My business is Canadian
, neurodiversity-friendly
, and owned by a queer, disabled human.
Each of us is only temporarily abled. So many of us think we're invincible but either through genetics, accident, illness, crime or old age(or a combination), we will all become disabled at at some point, to varying degrees. Protecting disabled people and making the world more accessible benefits everyone in the long run.

Hello Fediverse, finally getting to my #intro ! I am a 36 year old #transgender man in #newmexico . I love #gaming #books #dinosaurs and #crochet . I am hoping to make tons of friends here. I am #disabled , and mobility challenged while navigating poverty in a small rural town. I have #elhersdanlossyndrome , #autism , and MS. But I stay optimistic. I have 3 wonderful children, and 3 goofy #dogs . I am also married to a beautiful trans woman. I hope to meet all of you!
