#HolosSocial relay is confirmed to be very stable. I will officially tag it soon so admins can run their own relay with a script to easily install it on their VPS.
Using Holos with a custom domain and a cloud for media allows you to own your portable identity on the #Fediverse. Relays become only an infrastructure for it. Your device runs the #ActivityPub server and works as smoothly as any other app. Micro-blogging, media, and video, all from a single account. Switch with a simple tap.

It seems starter packs are gaining traction across the #Fediverse. #Fedilab and #Holos will support them as soon as they are available.

#HolosSocial isn't bringing something new to the #Fediverse, especially not to #ActivityPub. It builds on what exists, without mimicking any platform.
Every social network has been given its fediverse clone. Asking people to hold a separate account on each is taking the problem backwards.
If the fediverse keeps mirroring the GAFAM, it loses. The point was never to rebuild their world, but to offer something else: one identity across every content.
HolosSocial is simply a try. But we can do it.

#Fediverse, I need your help.

I have a budget for a small contract to improve #Emissary, and am looking for a talented web designer to create a new default theme for the server.

Highlights:
* Probably ~60 hours of work
* Anywhere in the world
* Must be a good person

MastoBlaster build 95 is out, and I am getting close to declaring it stable.

The biggest update in this build is making the Home tab behavior completely explicit. Under the hood, I changed the tab dispatch in MastoBlasterApp.swift, added the Home tab notifications in NotificationDelegate.swift, and moved the actual scroll/refresh behavior into TimelineView.swift so the timeline state stays coherent.

Here is exactly how it works now:

• Tap Home from another tab: Switches back to the Home tab.
• Tap Home while already there: Scrolls the current timeline to the newest posts.
• Tap Home again while already at the top: Refreshes the timeline (with a 1.5-second cooldown to prevent accidental spamming).
• Long-press Home: Opens the timeline picker.

Other changes and fixes included in build 95:

• Added a setting to completely disable Apple Intelligence.
• Redesigned the notification view to be larger and make much better use of screen space.
• Fixed the compose window layout for small devices like the iPhone mini.
• Profile and banner images can now be tapped to enlarge.
• Added support to approve or deny follower requests.
• Added per-instance and per-account connection timeouts.
• Added a visible Back button to the settings sheet.
• Updated the filtered notice UI: it now shows "Filtered Post ()" directly in the header and removes the separate "Matched:" line.

Test it out and let me know if everything holds up.

It’s really surprising to me that the #fediverse hasn’t agreed on a standardized way to open cross-instance #activitypub objects and instead relies on links that open in the browser. #urischeme

I found this proposal and what’s thinking… https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/07d7/fep-07d7.md Which one would be your favorite?

(If anyone has updates on the progress, feel free to point me in the right direction)

#Starling is a lightweight #PHP #fediverse server you can install by just copying files over FTP to a shared host. No PostgreSQL, no workers, no DevOps. Owning your data with #ActivityPub can be much simpler than with #ATProtocol. Have you tried it?
https://github.com/dfaria-eu/Starling

No app store needed. Elefeed installs as a PWA directly from your browser.

📱 Android (Chrome): three-dot menu → "Add to Home Screen"
🍎 iPhone (Safari): Share → "Add to Home Screen"

You get a home screen icon, push notifications, offline caching, and a full-screen experience.

No download. No extra permissions.

MastoBlaster Build 94 is now available on TestFlight.

This is a major release that merges several different development branches I've been working on, bringing together a lot of moving parts into a single build. A long, sleepless night…

Here is what changed:

• Full Drafts Support: A complete end-to-end draft flow. It includes auto-save, the ability to edit existing drafts, and a smart cancel confirmation that either discards a new draft or restores the original state if you were editing. It supports replies, quotes, polls, and media metadata.

• Trending Posts: Added a new trending timeline type with proper offset pagination support.

• Timeline Position Improvements: Added extra protection to stop SwiftUI from overwriting your saved scroll position when the view disappears or goes to the background. If a saved post can't be found in the cache, the app will now try a direct status fetch before giving up.

• UI & Navigation Fixes: Tapping Content Warnings (CW), "Show Filtered Post", or "Show More" now goes through an inline-action guard, fixing the bug where tapping them would accidentally trigger row navigation into the thread. Filtered posts also get proper bottom padding so the list separator doesn't sit on top of the button.

• Instance Compatibility & Tweaks: Added customizable timeout settings for slower instances (like snac on older hardware). I also fixed the 405 error when setting alt text on GoToSocial, and updated marker sync to strictly align with Mastodon’s documented form shape.

• Testing focus: I've implemented search fixes ensuring queries stay locked to the account you are searching from. If you are on GoToSocial, please test this thoroughly and let me know how it behaves. Since this build is the result of a massive merge, keep an eye out for any regressions.

@fajfer has helped #badgefed by deploying it to its first Kubernetes environment, smoothing out the rough edges to make it work properly, and now I’m proudly quoting his badge to test quotes!

Comment if you can see this quote in #mastodon!

I had an interesting conversation on here recently that made me realize that maybe not everyone who uses Mastodon knows that you can use filters as a way to add content warning to other people's posts?

Question, does anyone have a link to a 'how does Mastodon work' explanation (or 'how does the Fediverse work') that is understandable for people who still use Instagram or Facebook, for example? #dta #mastodon #fediverse

EDIT: I find this page & video by @_elena very useful! https://blog.elenarossini.com/my-fediverse-starter-guide/

FediMeteo got a solid upgrade today 🌤️

From now on, forecasts are richer, clearer, and a bit smarter, without losing the familiar, readable style.

You will now see more complete current conditions at a glance: feels-like temperature, humidity, pressure, visibility, UV index, and wind gusts, all grouped in a dedicated Details section. Sunrise and sunset times for the current day are also included.

The wind line is back in focus, clearly highlighted for current conditions, and gusts are shown separately using 💨 emoji so they are easy to spot and not confused with average wind.

Pressure is no longer just a number: FediMeteo now shows a real pressure trend over the last few hours, telling you if it is rising, falling, or staying stable.

A new Warnings section has been added. When relevant, the bot will automatically flag things like:

• extreme feels-like temperatures, hot or cold
• high UV levels
• poor air quality
• thunderstorms
• heavy rain likely
• strong winds or gusts

Hourly forecasts remain at 12 hours, but now include pressure too, which makes short-term weather changes easier to read and anticipate.

Everything is fully localised. Labels like “feels like”, section titles, and weather descriptions are consistent across languages, and all weather conditions are now covered everywhere.

In short: same FediMeteo you are used to, but with more context, clearer signals, and fewer surprises.

These changes will start appearing with the next forecast update.

Hello NSFW posters

I've been thinking about setting up a Fediverse instance dedicated exclusively to NSFW content (similar in spirit to kinkycats.org, but NSFW-only) or fedinsfw.app who are an evil PieFed. A key question is which platform the instance should run on. I want to avoid platforms that harm other instances by spamming or rewriting tags/links to point back to their own sites. Users choose their instance intentionally, and we should respect that choice.

Platforms to exclude (examples of problematic behavior):
- Lemmy
- PieFed
- Mastodon
- PixelFed
- loforo

Preferred platforms (candidates):
- Misskey
- Sharkey (a Misskey fork)
- Akkoma (may be heavy on older systems)
- Pleroma (may be heavy on older systems)
- Other options to evaluate

Server rules and governance:
- Create a clear Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and privacy policy.
- Decide whether bots are allowed or if only human-moderated accounts can post.
- Admins and moderators:
- Two admins total; one admin has veto power. The main admin is the person who leases the server and owns the domain (the legal responsible party).
- Three or four moderators.
- Election process for admin(s) and moderators:
- Democratic selection weighted by contribution:
- Sponsors: 2 votes each
- Top contributors (best posters, most likes/boosts): 1.5 votes each
- Everyone else: 1 vote each

Next steps and open questions:
- Finalize platform choice based on moderation tools, federation behavior, and resource needs.
- Draft the AUP, privacy policy, and moderation guidelines.
- Define technical requirements (server specs, backups, moderation tools).
- Clarify whether automated accounts (bots) are permitted and under what rules.

This is a summary of the ideas I’m currently considering.

Please share feedback and questions, we welcome comments, suggestions, and constructive criticism. Help spread the word to others who might be interested. Direct messages (DMs/PMs) are also welcome if you prefer to contact us privately.

Fedizens, we dream! ✊

But what do we dream about? How do our dreams relate, where do they overlap? Might we realize them together? Turn our online places into a delightful commons of cross-pollination and cocreation? How can we make progress towards forging a better world together, and sustain that progress? Can we turn our collaborative efforts into much more than the sum of their constituent parts, and move on shared vision into a brighter future together?

Questions, questions.

In my previous blog post on Shared responsible ownership I claimed that a commons can be 🔥 ignited, and become unstoppable as it realizes positive societal impact. Able to withstand the corrosive forces of Hypercapitalism that seek to corrupt it.

Revolutionary evolution is possible! ✊

#Fediverse is the perfect environment to make this happen. We laid the foundations already. We have soil, so now we can blossom. 🌻

Fedizens, let's dream! ✊
