I photographed this flower at my home in Sydney as a still life image from a native bouquet which was given to me as a gift.

A vibrant Protea flower displays striking yellow and orange hues with long, thin petals extending outward. The flower contrasts beautifully against a dark background, highlighting its unique structure and vivid colors.

This flower is a Pincushion Protea (Leucospermum species), native to South Africa and also grown in parts of Australia.
It is characterized by its striking, spherical flower head made up of long, slender, brightly colored styles—usually yellow, orange, or red—that resemble pins in a pincushion. The bloom is supported by leathery green leaves, and the plant is well-adapted to dry, sunny environments, making it a popular ornamental in gardens and floral arrangements.
Leucospermum cordifolium is an upright, evergreen shrub of up to 1½ m high from the Proteaceae. The flower heads are globe-shape with a flattened top, 10–12 cm in diameter, and are carried individually or with two or three together mostly at a right angle to its branch. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Leucospermum cordifolium
Family: Proteaceae
Genus: Leucospermum

Vibrant Petals in the Sunlight

South Australia.

A close up photograph of a vibrant purple African daisy in sharp focus, featuring elongated petals radiating from a dark centre dotted with bright yellow pollen. To the lower right, a contrasting white daisy with a blue-hued centre peeks into the frame, while hints of other blossoms and soft green foliage fill the background under bright, natural daylight. A translucent outline of the Australian map watermark bearing a name sits in the bottom left corner.

I decided to go a bit ‘arty’ with this photo. Hope I pulled it off. This tree really stood out at Mount Usher Gardens - the bright yellow leaves were almost fluorescent! https://buff.ly/cdyN0uo

A vertical photograph treated with a soft, ethereal edit, featuring a slender deciduous tree centred on a lush green lawn. The tree's feathery, delicate foliage shifts from bright chartreuse green to warm, luminous gold in the upper canopy. Sunlight filters softly from behind, silhouetting fine branches against a pale blue sky dotted with soft white clouds. In the background, deeper green trees and dense garden borders frame the scene, while subtle pink garden flowers and soft vignetted greenery rest in the immediate foreground. The overall mood is airy, bright, and painterly.
