fediverse

If you're into photography, there is a free open Flickr-style photography platform which you can host yourself called Vernissage. It also has Fediverse compatibility so people can follow Vernissage accounts from Mastodon, Pixelfed etc. More info at:

🌱 https://joinvernissage.org

You can follow at:

🌱 @vernissage

For techy people who want to install their own Vernissage manually, docs are at:

"There’s much to improve about search and discovery on Mastodon, and we finally have the technical foundation to build a better solution."

Great read, thank you for sharing @imanijoy @Mastodon!

The time has come and I'm beyond excited 😁

We just opened registrations on catodon.rocks.

I know that Catodon created a lot of expectations when Firefish fell apart, and I'm sure many of you were disappointed to see it not going anywhere for a long time. This time I am doing it on my own, so things will happen the way they should have. And, although you can now check it out for youselves, I will say this: I firmly believe that it's better, on every level, than Firefish ever was. I was in both projects, I love them both, but Catodon combines the best features of Firefish and Sharkey, while also being very debloated, being much more comprehensible, and adding actually useful stuff - and I have more plans for the future.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the UX of Catodon, and see how we can improve it further! Let's create the fedi experience we deserve =)

Hi, friends.

I wrote an article on being a Mastodon moderator. I talk about the process, our mental health, the challenges of mutual aid, and more.

It leaves me a little vulnerable, but I think it’s an important story to tell.

If you like it, boosts are welcomed. If you have questions, feel free to reach out.

Okay, here goes…

"Chances are you’ve heard about Mastodon, the fast-growing social network that offers much of what you love (following friends and interesting people) while skipping many of the things you don’t (such as intrusive advertisements and algorithms choosing what you should see)."

Hiya friends - so you know how there are whimsical names for groups of animals, such as:

* A murder of crows
* A parliament of owls
* A flamboyance of flamingos

Well I just learned that the only term for a group of Mastodons is a "herd." Which is fine, but I bet we can do better... 👀 suggestions in the comments, please!

Good evening from Al-Aqsa Hospital in Gaza. Despite all the challenges, we continue to provide healthcare with all the strength we have. As summer begins, skin diseases are increasing due to people living in tents for more than two years.
Please don't leave me struggling to pay the rent for the home sheltering my family. I still need just €300. Thank you for your support. ❤️

Hey everyone,

@casey and @rania40 had the honour of speaking to two families from Gaza today and we’d like to welcome them to Gaza Verified.

They are:

• 🍉Braa🇵🇸🍉 (@braa)
• Mona (@monaashqer)

Please give them a warm welcome to Mastodon and to the fediverse, follow their accounts, and donate to their fundraisers if you can (and please share this so others can do the same).

Also, remember that you can find all our families who have fundraisers listed at the following page, ordered by those who have received the least in donations over the last week (on a rolling basis):

https://gaza-verified.org/donate/

Thank you for making Mastodon and the fediverse a safe space for our friends in Gaza and for your support.

💕

A bit spammy, maybe, but not intended to be:

In Germany, a company that makes brooms and other cleaning utensils called Andreas Bürsten @buersten is very active on the #Fediverse. During the many discussions here, they listened to the wishes of our weird and wonderful community. May I present: The "Regenbogen". Clean your house and patio in style. With a statement of inclusion :) (They only ship to Germany and no, I am not getting paid. I just *love* their approach)

Yeah, seems the migration has worked, hi from my new Wafrn account on the https://meowing.men :3 Did you know that Wafrn allows you to interact with both Fediverse and Bluesky at THE SAME TIME?!

Let's document interactions between Mobilizon and other fediverse softwares. Documentation is up to date with Mastodon and Gancio (https://docs.mobilizon.org/6.%20Fediverse/1.protocol/) but inputs regarding Peertube and Pixelfed are missing (at least). If you use Mobilizon together with Peertube or Pixelfed or any fediverse other software, we're very interested in your experience. #fediverse

I am looking to host a **de-federated** mastodon instance for 300 to 500 people.

I wanted to know what kind server specs I should go for for this kind of project. should I go for 8gb or 4gb of RAM, roughly how many vCPUs/threads, etc..

#fediverse #mastodon #SelfHosting #activitypub #homelab

If you've recently joined the fediverse, and are maybe on a smaller server, things might feel a bit isolated.

Fediverse does require a little more effort compared to traditional social media. This is where the community has really stepped in and created some great tools, like these bots that share trending posts from servers across the fediverse.

A few days ago I asked if you would use an anonymous way to talk with people near you, built on the #Fediverse and #OSM (#OpenStreetMap). The poll is still open, but I already started, because I truly believe in this need. It is called #FediHood. Your account is anonymous, private messages are end to end encrypted, and it reuses the tools I already run in #PawFed and #HolosSocial.
