A summer thunderstorm rolls across Pecos National Historical Park in New Mexico. Thunder in the distance, lightning along the horizon, and sunlight breaking through behind me, lighting the adobe ruins against that deep blue stormy sky. One of my favorite things about summer in New Mexico.

Joe Pye weed (Eutrochium maculatum)
But who is Joe Pye? It seems to be the anglophone name of a very interesting Mohican, Joseph Shauquethqueat, living at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, in Massachusetts and New York. Not clear he had anything to do with the plant, maybe only by association.
A scholarly article about botany, history and First Nations, with Latin names and a critical eye. Perfect 🤓

A Rainy Day, High Street, Oxford, UK
It didn’t rain constantly, but on this first day we dealt with drizzle and sometimes heavy showers.

Farlington Marshes, on the outskirts of Portsmouth, a popular spot for birdwatching or just having a nice long walk or cycle with mostly nothing but nature around. The marshes were reclaimed from the surrounding Langstone Harbour in 1771 and during World War II this land was used as a decoy site for German bombers.

✨Orpheus✨
This #MosaicMonday we celebrate Orpheus, whose musical gifts were such that he was capable of attracting all manner of animals to his side. In this mosaic panel, found near Edessa and dated to 194 CE, Orpheus plays his lyre and predator and prey alike are soothed by his song.

⛪An abandoned church hall, later used as a nightclub. Somewhere in England.
Built in 1903 as a Methodist Central Hall, before its 1990s rebirth as a nightclub. It was a legendary rave venue for two decades.
The building’s history hasn't been without tragedy. It was the site of several fatalities: a fatal fall from the clock tower in the 90s, a murder outside the venue, and a drug-related death in the 2000s.

I mean c’mon people. The racist 1994 Clinton #Crime Bill co-authored by #Biden, HRC calling Black teens “superpredators,” #Obama droning more people than any #POTUS in #history including an American teenager and Arabs innocently attending a wedding, HRC endorsing the illegal coup in #Honduras (supporting murder exactly like Kissinger himself would have), Obama vacationing while Black Missourians in Ferguson were being gassed by militarized #police, Biden deporting more Haitians than any POTUS in history and smearing our college students who opposed his #genocide in #Palestine “antisemitic.” Vichy #Democrats hardly repaired any of the damage of fascist #Republicans.
