at the moment, it simply doesn't have the allure of these new apps & platforms sprouting up, there appears to be little desire to collaborate with people with deep industry insight, and aspects i would consider mission critical (e.g. anything related to a seamless transition from Meta products) need serious attention and it just seems that marketability and softening the landing after leaving an ecosystem many of us have spent 20, 50, sometimes even 70% of our lives on is an afterthought
don't get me wrong, i'm still hopeful about the project—and i'm pouring hours into it daily running my own instance—but i do think there needs to be a swift pivot before a entire population jumping ship on Meta picks a different platform altogether and i worry the opportunity could soon be lost

Tonight, I sent my public Facebook page into hibernation. I am leaving up as an archive of my work in the Senate and my work as a journalist. But I no longer find it fun or useful to post there - and my algorithm sends me is a never ending stream of racist, transphobic and smutty posts. That - plus the standard chronic abuse from trolls, which had always been there - and I’m done. Tomorrow I delete my Senate Instagram account too. Ah well. It was fun while it lasted. #Meta #Facebook

Correction: The Biden account signals the failure of the fediverse, at least from the perspective of those who dreamed of a decentralized, noncommercial, community-owned social network that would replace the capitalist data mines and see mass adoption by public figures, journalists and government agencies.
That dream is dead. Instead, those figures and agencies will just sign up to another centralized proprietary Zuckerberg platform, and maybe check a box in their account settings for a bit of extra - and vaguely comprehended - syndication reach

I've shared this article yesterday, but I want to highlight this part:
'Meta has more than 3 billion users globally. In a wide-ranging statement, Zuckerberg said Meta would also “get rid of a bunch of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that are just out of touch with mainstream discourse” and “work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world that are going after American companies and pushing to censor more”.
He cited Europe as a place with “an ever increasing number of laws institutionalising censorship and making it difficult to build anything innovative”'
This is an explicit threat to the #EuropeanUnion . Zuckerberg has fallen in line behind #ElonMusk and the incoming #Trump administration in order to promote #fascism around the world to a degree we haven't seen before. If you think that the situation is already bad - and it is - then you will nevertheless see that it _will_ get much worse.

#PSA: I deleted all the #Meta/ #Facebook apps. Have you tried #Signal? It is co-founded and initially funded by Brian Acton, a co-founder of #WhatsApp. [1] Signal is better than WhatsApp in every possible way. @signalapp also has impermanent usernames for when you don't want to give out your number. Does audio/video/group chats as well.

Threads.net has been suspended on this server (darkmoon.social) due to Meta's policy decisions that enable systemic abuse and disinformation across its platforms.
This is a decision I've been mulling over for a while now, and recent events have pushed me to finally pull the trigger. I will not associate with fascists, even by proxy. I'm sorry to lose access to good content by people who have accounts there, but enough is enough.

After @zuck changed #Meta’s content policy around offensive content, I noticed that the number of sites that @threads previously blocked have now been unblocked: https://www.threads.net/moderated_servers
Sites previously blocked for trolling 🧌, or promoting vulgar content (like Baraag whose existence is evil) are also now unblocked.
Curiously, all #Pixelfed instances are still “muted,” although #Fediverse handles will still show up on #Threads.
