A flyer that says: Have you seen this? We need your help! as title and subtitle. It shows a silvery teal fish with a large eye on a white surface. The text says:
The Oswegatchie River has the best remaining Mooneye population in the state of New York. Clarkson University and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) are conducting a study to determine the population and range of this rare fish. Averaging 12-14 inches long, the toothed tongue, silvery scales and flat body shape, and large eye are key identifying features.
If you happen to see or catch one of these fish on the Oswegatchie or other North Country river, we would like to know about it! Please take a photo of the fish before releasing it. Send the photo with the date, the location, and how you caught it (bait or lure, depth) to rarefish@dec.ny.gov or else call Prof. Tom Langen (Clarkson University) at (315) 268-7933 to report your fish. This is research conducted in collaboration with Clarkson University, the DEC,
and the USFWS.
