March Blizzard - kind of what it looks like here today. Weather said 6 inches, but we've at about 18 inches and still snowing. No power and quite the unusual weather for November. This photo got a Special Mention in a contest called Blizzards.

One Tree - This lone tree standing in the fields surrounded by the flood waters was so pretty bathed in the late afternoon light. Another view of the flooding that occurs almost every spring in New Patlz, NY. A lovely landscape photograph that would make a great #gift

County Route 7 - Seemed like every spring the Walkill River breached its banks along the flats leading to the Shawangunk Mountains. It was almost dusk and the light was beautiful, reflecting back the trees. There were geese everywhere in that flooded stretch of farmland.

MIDDAY - Middle of January and the day was very foggy. How beautiful the pines appeared in that fog. A hint of snow glistening in the moody day light that looks like evening, but is the middle of the day.

This is the Forecast Discussion from KSEA / Seattle WA NWS at Thursday 12/12/2024 06:01:41 PST
SHORT TERM, TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY: Current satellite shows a low pressure system spinning off the Oregon Coast bringing some high clouds into the region. This may help mitigate the fog in some areas and improve the visibility.
Radar imagery also shows light showers starting to move into the region from the south. The low pressure system is expected to move southward towards Northern California, thus keeping the majority of the moisture centered to that area.
As a result, rainfall amounts are expected to be light with this system on Thursday. Snow levels at the passes with this system are expected to be between 2500 to 3500 ft. Some light snow accumulation is possible, around 1 to 2 inches.

This is the Forecast Discussion from KSEA / Seattle WA NWS at Saturday 12/14/2024 06:26:05 PST
SHORT TERM: Good morning, western WA.
Active weather will persist throughout the day as a stout disturbance churns offshore. An upper-trough is lifting northeastward along with its associated 977 mb surface low about 125nm WSW of La Push. It'll continue before filling over Vancouver Island and SW BC this afternoon. With it, widespread rain, mountain snow, gusty winds and high surf/Coastal Flooding will be an issue.

Ice Fishing - another thing I love about Winter, watching it snow. We met a group of people in the afternoon setting out to ice fish on the lake that is now frozen all the way across. By 5:30 pm, they were still there and had lit a fire to keep warm. It was kind of a cool thing to see, but at sixteen degrees, I'm not sure I would have made it that long.

When people first started joining the Fediverse in large numbers, a lot of them asked "Where are the weather accounts?"
If you're one of those people, please check out the FediMeteo project at:
It has weather forecast accounts for cities and towns across almost all of Europe and North America, plus Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
To follow an account, click on a town or city, then copy-paste its address into the search box in Mastodon etc.
Announcing FediMeteo – Weather in the Fediverse!
UPDATE: I have created an account for updates and other information on FediMeteo - follow the account @admin to stay updated!
UPDATE: Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland have just been added
Weather has always influenced our lives: from agriculture to outdoor activities, to extreme events that, thanks to modern technology, can now be predicted with greater reliability. Personally, weather plays a significant role in my daily decisions, which is why I decided to create a service tailored for the Fediverse.
FediMeteo uses Open-Meteo data to publish updates every 6 hours, including current weather conditions, forecasts for the next 12 hours, and predictions for the upcoming days. Each country is served by its own dedicated instance (e.g., it.fedimeteo.com for Italy), managed through snac to ensure simplicity and efficiency in publishing.
You can follow FediMeteo directly in the Fediverse (on Mastodon and compatible platforms), via RSS, or by visiting the dedicated page for your city (e.g., fr.fedimeteo.com/paris).
Currently supported countries include:
Austria, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, – with many more regions coming soon!
FediMeteo is hosted on a FreeBSD-based VPS, with each country isolated in its own jail to ensure security and scalability.
Visit the main site to explore the national instances and start following your local weather updates today:

Happy weather monitoring to all! 🌦️
FediMeteo is dedicated to my grandfather, who every evening would give me the weather forecast based on TV, radio, and his personal experience. He would convince me that the weather would be bad, so he had an excuse to accompany me to school instead of me going alone.

This is the Forecast Discussion from KSEA / Seattle WA NWS at Friday 01/10/2025 06:23:31 PST
SHORT TERM, today Friday into the weekend:
A frontal system will continue to move inland this morning and sweep across the Pacific Northwest throughout the day today, bringing in lowland rain and mountain snow alongside breezy post-frontal onshore winds.
Snow levels will fall to 3000 ft by late Friday, resulting in snow accumulation through Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes.
Confidence is high that Puget Sound Convergence Zone showers will form over the central Cascades later today into early Saturday morning which will locally enhance snowfall amounts.
Latest model guidance shows roughly 7 inches of snow through Snoqualmie Pass and 11 inches through Stevens Pass enhanced by convergence zone shower activity, and a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through early Saturday morning.
Lower elevations will see drying throughout the day Saturday, with lingering snow showers over the Cascades under moist northwest flow aloft. Snow levels will dip to roughly 2000 ft, though any additional snow accumulation amounts on Saturday will be light.
The rest of the region will see cloudy skies with some afternoon sun breaks and highs in the mid to upper 40s.
