A comedy director has come up with an idea of breaking through his common filmmaking take by shooting a short film about how his grandmother would have spent on the New Year's day, crews recruited, the protagonist on set, everyone ready in the rural remote country where he was born and raised while out of everyone's expectation, the grandma passed. The movie has to go on, hence the narrative metamorphosizes from here... You can't always get what you want, as a storyteller, he leads the whole crew into another diverged yet moving journey.

Everything changes for the Ing family when the husband and father is diagnosed with terminal cancer. The mother, who is the main supporter has become more isolated, while the son is no longer certain about his future plans although he has been accepted to study abroad. The conflicted family returns to the father’s hometown for the tomb-sweeping ritual, but his original mountain tomb has been replaced by a newly built hotel.

In 1972/73, sinologist & situationist René Viénet bought the rights to Tú Guāngqǐ's 1972 martial-arts movie Crush. Creative subtitling turned it into a burlesque comedy about daft French Maoists and street-smart Anarcho-Syndicalists. It became an instant success on its very limited first run. Then, a second version was made: the film was dubbed using the dialogues Viénet wrote for the subs, with a few congenial changes by the actors. Time passed, La dialectique peut-elle casser des briques? vanished from circulation, turning slowly into a half-remembered avant-garde myth whose distorted reality one could mainly encounter online in ultra-crappy compression. While digitally restoring his legacy and thinking about new projects after decades of silence, Viénet decided to make a third version by means of digitally rotoscoped moving watercolours! We proudly present the return of La dialectique peut-elle casser des briques? both in the rotoscopic and restored dubbed versions.
