第十一番惑星でガトランティスとの交戦を続ける空間騎兵隊は、隊員の1人である永倉志織を救援要請のために脱出させる。救助した永倉からガトランティス艦隊の襲撃を知ったヤマトは、テレザートへの航海を優先するよう軍上層部に指示されるも、救援を決意して第十一番惑星に向かう。避難民を収容して脱出を図るヤマトだったが、ワープアウトしてきたカラクルム級の雷撃旋回砲の巨大なビームが惑星の地表を薙ぎ払い、ヤマトはその閃光の中に消え、消息不明となる。
