几乎每一个奇幻爱好者都知道《时光之轮(The Wheel of Time)》这套奇幻小说。上面这段话就是这套小说最著名的开篇语。
在时光之轮的世界里，时间是一个有着七根轮辐的轮子(一条大蛇首尾相衔环绕着一个七根轮辐的轮子)。每根轮辐是一个纪元。随着轮辐的转动，纪元也就随之更替。注意每一个纪元是很长的，所以虽然这个轮子只有七根轮辐，但当它转一周时，上一次的纪元往往早已被人遗忘。
太古，在阴影之战后，那些发疯的男性两仪师在临死之前彻底地改变了地球的面貌：山脉夷为平地，平地产生高山，旱地代替了海洋，海洋覆盖着旱地……过去的一切没有一丁点残留下来，幸存的人类挣扎着四处搜寻食物，只为多苟存一天。在数个纪元之后，不是学者，根本不可能知道关于阴影之战和裂世之战的点滴资料，而即使是学者，他们也只知道某些片断。

During the events of his hilarious trials in attempting to adopt a shelter animal, Sian Heder, the film’s director was apparently there with him and taking notes about the whole thing to make a good dinner party story. After the story was told many times, it eventually evolved into the script. The film is described as “a twisted, fun, morality tale about the lengths to which some of us will go in order to get what we want.”
