The Bhagavadgita is one phase of the Tripod of Indian philosophy and culture, the other two phases being the Upanishads and the Brahmasutras. While the Upanishads lay the foundation of the loftiest reach possible for humanity and the Brahmasutras logically elucidate the intricate issues involved in the Upanishads, the Bhagavadgita blends together the Transcendent and the Immanent features of the Ultimate Reality, bringing together into an integrated whole knowledge and action, the inner and the outer, the individual and the society, man and God, all which are portrayed as facets of a Universal Operation, presenting entire life and all life as a perfectly complete organic wholeness, leaving nothing unsaid and attempting to solve every problem in life.

数千年来，中国的文人学士们都将《易经》作为一部值得日日、时时研读的经典，研习并遵从其中的道理。孔子说“居则观其象而玩其辞，动则观其变而玩其占”，宋人叶采也曾讲“双双瓦雀行书案，点点杨花入砚池。闲坐小窗读周易，不知春去几多时”，唐代虞世南说“不读《易》不可为将相”，医学家孙思邈说“不知《易》便不足以言知医”，足见《易经》对后世人的重大影响和吸引力。
然而，虽然书名为“易”，但真正能够参得透、讲得清这本书的人，实是少之又少。从古至今，关于《易经》的著作浩如烟海，每家都从自身的感受和角度出发，试图解读《易经》中深含的观点，但鲜有成功者。就此，宋代理学大师朱熹曾说“《易》难看，不比他书”，同时又说“是圣人事，非学者可及也”。
具体来说，《易经》以眼花缭乱的八卦、六十四卦符号为载体，并配合晦涩艰深的卦辞、爻辞阐述世事、事理，文辞艰涩。虽然以卦爻为工具和载体，但《易经》并不是一部关于卜筮的作品，而更像是古人关于世界、人生体悟的综述，旨在引导人们重新认识自身所生活的这个世界，进而体悟它深蕴的哲学，获得源源不断的生活智慧和前进动力。
对于这本经典，连朱熹这样的大家都连呼“《易》难看”，更别说对传统文化知之甚少的现代人了。这也就难怪会有一些现代人，将《易经》视作一部“天书”。
鉴于此，我们精选古本正源，并兼采众家著作，经过精心审校，以文白对照的形式，再现这部伟大著作的精华。本书按照《易经》六十四卦的顺序，每卦独成一节，以原文、注释、译文三个板块的形式，在力求保持《易经》原有意味的基础上，努力在读者和原著之间搭建起一座桥梁，以期每一个现代人都能读出《易经》中的思想韵味。

《论语》是一部语录体思想散文集。早在春秋后期孔子设坛讲学时期，其主体内容就已初始创成；孔子去世以后，他的辫子和再传弟子代代传授他的言论，并逐渐将这些口头记诵的语录言行记录下来，集腋成裘，最终在战国初年汇辑论纂成书，因此称“论”。《论语》主要记载孔子及其弟子的言行，因此称为“语”。
孔子思想以立身为出发点，而人能立身于世的首要条件就是具有“君子”人格。君子具备仁爱之心，自重自律；表里如一，言行一致；积极进取，德才兼备；孜孜于学，注重实践；安贫乐道，谨守正义等等；始终坚守人之间的相处之道，遵从不同的伦理关系，构建着和谐友爱的人际关系和社会环境。

Lucius Annaeus Seneca, statesman, philosopher, advocate and man of letters, was born at Cordoba in Spain around 4 BC. He rose to prominence in Rome, pursuing a career in the courts and political life, for which he had been trained, while also acquiring celebrity as an author of tragedies and essays. Falling foul of successive emperors (Caligula in AD 39 and Claudius in AD 41), he spent eight years in exile, allegedly for an affair with Caligula's sister. Recalled in AD 49, he was made praetor and was appointed tutor to the boy who was to become, in AD 54, the emperor Nero. On Nero's succession, Seneca acted for some eight years as an unofficial chief minister. The early part of this reign was remembered as a period of sound government, for which the main credit seems due to Seneca. His control over Nero declined as enemies turned the emperor against him with representations that his popularity made him a danger, or with accusations of immorality or excessive wealth. Retiring from public life he devoted his last three years to philosophy and writing, particularly the Letters to Lucilius. In AD 65 following the discovery of a plot against the emperor, in which he was thought to be implicated, he and many others were compelled by Nero to commit suicide. His fame as an essayist and dramatist lasted until two or three centuries ago, when he passed into literary oblivion, from which the twentieth century has seen a considerable recovery.
