吴沙与同事洪掌、许天送、朱合等并称四杰，情同手足。洪掌有侄金川，不务正业，好勇斗狠。为挑拨叔父与吴沙的情谊，制造事端。为此，吴沙的侄子吴化与金川发生冲突，酿成群殴。

几经曲折，吴沙率大批移民进发蛤仔滩。一路披荆斩棘，备尝艰辛。抵达拓荒区后，平埔番社酋长塔玛拉及其女莎耶公主率众力阻拓荒耕种，移民多方劝导。

时值番社流行疫病，吴沙、天杰等日夜救治病人，终使痊愈。番民感激，得以和好。移民顺利垦种，并筑围安家。丰收之日，众人热烈庆祝。但金川又暗中生事，并谋杀吴沙，幸得义仆舍命相救。

金川终于自食恶果。历尽几多劫难，天杰与秀美，吴化与莎耶结为百年之好。汉番和睦，过着安乐幸福 的生活。
