剧情简介：
老李爱喝酒，上了老何的当，将自己靠近街口的住处借给老何用来开店。一日，老李的小女儿忽然不见了，老李肯定地认为这是老何干的，便招老何去乡公所，但乡亲们受了老何的贿赂，又瞧不起老李，便都袒护老何。很快，老李的其他孩子们得知的确是老何将小妹拐骗走，就找了很多伙伴，又夺回妹妹，将老何推入河中。



《联华交响曲》的第一个故事《两毛钱》更像是之前张石川的长片《压岁钱》的短片缩影，通过一张两毛钱的纸币流通对照出当时生活贫富悬殊的状况。第二部作品《春闺断梦》体现出费穆导演的大师潜质，影片描写的是两个女人的梦境，强烈的光影效果、逼人的角色造型以及夸张的画面构图都让人感到明显的表现主义气息。由沈浮导演的《三人行》则是风格鲜明的底层生活喜剧。《陌生人》、《月下小景》及《疯人狂想曲》都是描写抗日的影片，却风格迥异，或直接或寓言，或激昂或悲伤，体现出导演不同的创作取向与个人表述方式。由商业片名导朱石麟拍摄的《鬼》虽然在题材上略显老套，其有条不紊的叙事节奏与玄机铺设却非常适应这类惊悚片的模式。最后一部是蔡楚生的《小五义》，影片以寓言的手法表现出当时中国的抗战形势，其组织了大量儿童演员的高潮段落也能够引起观众的兴奋，算是为整部“交响曲”压了一个好轴。

影片改编自作家梁晓声的中篇小说《疲惫的人》，主人公王君生，从知青到返城工作，娶妻生子，一路沟沟坎坎奔到了中年，混到了现在的模样： 46岁的小酱油厂副厂长。
由于是副厂长，只得由他来做让人家下岗的工作；为打击假冒他们厂牌子生了产的地下酱油厂，也只得是他戴着红袖标，与工商局的同志们一起走在最前头……某天挨闷棍，原以为是因为得罪了假冒者，后来才知道是自己厂里下岗职工找人把他打成重伤。“因工负伤” 嘉奖、奖金全部泡汤，他知道后只是说了句“算了”。
小区住宅楼的阳光被一所高高的新大楼遮挡，并不善言辞的他硬是被邻里推选为代表和房地产开发商谈判，谈判无果被撵出来后他向法院递了起诉状，而此时邻里却已悄悄地和房地产公司达成赔偿协议，最后就他一家没有得到赔偿。妻子让他去要赔款，拉不下脸面的他东挪西凑借来了3000块钱算作“赔偿”给了妻子。
儿子做了三年的三好学生，本该保送上重点高中却没有被保送，反而因半分之差落榜。心有不甘的他一个一个地找人去论理，最后忍不住在校长面前放声痛哭……
5楼的姚处长贪污事发，他仅仅因为送过一条烟两瓶酒，而到检察院做了坦白交待。副厂长的职务被撤，回家后他用“仍然保留副科待遇”来安慰妻子。
某天，他莫名其妙的被诊断为患上癌症。然后又莫名其妙的被告知是误诊。

偶然，翻看儿时的照片想起童年，不经意读到儿子的日记，和妻子的深夜畅谈，身心疲惫的他发现“幸福”其实未曾远离．．．．．．他带着全家去雪地玩，他对儿子说：“好多人的父母都下岗了，而你只有母亲一个人下岗；好多人的家长都是工人，而你的爸爸是厂办主任；好多人只有一间房，而我们有两间。好多人家里都有不幸，而我们家一直很太平……所以，你应该感到幸福。”
