A documentary on the history of garlic. Blank interviews chefs, garlic lovers, and historians about the their love of the 'stinking rose.' Often referred to as a stinking rose, garlic, in its culinary uses, generally evokes a love it or hate it response. Quite often, these responses are on cultural lines, where old world cultures have generally revered it in their cooking, while new world cultures have not. A renaissance of sorts is taking place in the use of garlic in the United States, with more and more immigrants bringing their use of the spice to the country, with more people desiring more spice in their food, with a desire to get back to the land and with the production of plant a large part of the Central California landscape. Many chefs are presented preparing dishes prominently featuring the spice. On the bad side, the association of garlic to bad breath is discussed. On the other side, its purported health benefits are also discussed. Other topics presented include its association to vampirism, and speculation of how people will want their garlic to be presented to them in the future.

January 2016. The love story that brought me to this village in Alsace where I live ended six months ago. At 45, I am now alone, without a car, a job or any real prospects, surrounded by luxuriant nature, the proximity of which is not enough to calm the deep distress into which I am plunged. France, still in shock from the November terror attacks, is in a state of emergency. I feel helpless, I suffocate with contained rage. I am lost and I watch four to five films a day. I decide to record this stagnation, not by picking up a camera but by editing shots from the stream of films I watch.

Through stories and photographs, many never widely seen before, Give Peace a Chance will offer a chance to sit on the edge of the Bed-In, Suite 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal between May 26 and June 2, 1969. John Lennon and Yoko Ono used their bed as a way to put themselves and their message in the center of a searing spotlight, demonstrating through their vulnerability and openness their unrelenting support for their beliefs. No celebrity couple had ever used their bed as a place of protest, nor had anyone before been so available in person and by telephone to the world. “We’re going to sell peace the way other people sell soap,” Lennon said to a young, accomplished photographer on assignment for Life magazine, Gerry Deiter. Deiter was our eyes in that hotel room, the only photographer there for the entire eight days of the bed-in. He was determined to capture the essence of the scene--in particular the love between the newlyweds in many intimate moments. He also candidly caught the famous people who dropped in: Timothy Leary, Tommy Smothers, Dick Gregory, Al Capp, Murray the K and others.
