The soundtrack features 15 songs, including new music from The Shins, Bon Iver, and Cat Power + Coldplay. "Wish I Was Here" (written and directed by Zach Braff) is the story of Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being the great futuristic Space-Knight he'd always dreamed he'd be as a little kid. The film stars Zach Braff, Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Jim Parsons, Ashley Greene, Josh Gad, and James Avery in his final film.

A Ghost Story is the new film from director David Lowery (Pete's Dragon) starring Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea) and Rooney Mara (Carol). In this singular exploration of legacy, love, loss, and the enormity of existence, the movie follows a recently deceased, white-sheeted ghost returning to his suburban home to try and reconnect with his bereft wife. Highly anticipated, A Ghost Story is being released by A24 on July 7, 2017. The score to A Ghost Story was composed by Lowrey's frequent collaborator Daniel Hart (Tumbledown). Astral in sound and cosmic in scope, Hart's compositions for A Ghost Story will haunt you.

Set in 1950s New York, two women from very different backgrounds, (Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara), find themselves in the throes of lo ve in CAROL. As conventional norms of the time challenge their undeniable attraction, an honest story emerges to reveal the resilience of the heart in the face of change. The score is composed by Carter Burwell, best known for his work on Coen Bros films and Twilight. The songs consists of Jazz and Pop gems of the era portrayed in the film; Billie Holliday, Les Paul and Mary Ford etc. “There is no widely accepted explanation for the importance of music to humans, but one possibility is its ability to express and relieve emotional tensions that can’t be put into words,” explained Burwell. “In CAROL, two women are romantically attracted to each other but the culture of 1950’s America hasn’t provided them with a language for this. Expressing these inexpressible feelings is one of the roles of the score in this film.”

Deutsche Grammophon is excited to announce the November release of Arrival (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with music composed and produced by Johann Johannsson. The Paramount Pictures film Arrival, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, is the composers third cinematic collaboration with French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, following on from last years crime thriller Sicario, which garnered Johannsson an Oscar nomination for best original score. As recently announced, their next joint project will be the much anticipated sequel to the legendary science fiction film Blade Runner. Arrival stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker, Adams playing the lead role of a linguist who attempts to communicate with the alien intelligence controlling a fleet of spacecraft that has suddenly and ominously appeared at sites all around the globe. As mankind teeters on the brink of global war, she and her team embark on a race against time to find out why these craft have come to earth. More than a conventional sci-fi thriller, this is a thoughtful, intellectual drama with a genre twist. Arrival is a very unique science fiction film and I decided early on that the human voice would feature prominently in the score, says Johannsson. It seemed a natural choice, given that the story is very much about language and communication. Johannsson worked with several singers and vocal ensembles and combined both classical and avant-garde elements in his compositions, augmenting his already unique approach of combining orchestral writing with digital sound processing. Among those appearing are the prestigious Theatre of Voices, conducted by Paul Hillier, and artists such as Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Hildur Guonadottir, known for their unique musicianship. Johannsson also integrated some found sounds from the legendary avant-garde vocalist Joan La Barbara into his score. The soundtrack was recorded in Prague, Copenhagen and his native Reykjavik.

Fresh off her invitation to join the Motion Picture Academy, Ms. Barber delivers, what most will consider, her best work to date. Beautifully harmonized vocal performances, recurring at key intervals, represent only one of the many memorable moments of her achievement. A much-deserved Academy Award Nomination for this sumptuous score would come as a surprise to no one.
