Dylan Baldi maintains simple, admirable standards in quality. “A thing I like to do with all of my records is drive around with them,” the 25-year-old Cloud Nothings frontman says. “In high school, I would listen to music for hours like that: just driving through the suburbs of Cleveland. And if it sounds good to me in that context and I can think of high school me listening to it and saying, ‘That’s okay,’ I feel good about the record. This is the one that’s felt best.” “This” is Life Without Sound, the radiant, far-far-better-than-okay fourth full-length his rock outfit has recorded since he began writing and releasing songs on his own under the Cloud Nothings alias in 2008. While its highly acclaimed predecessor—2014’s Here and Nowhere Else—came together spontaneously, in the little time that touring allowed, Life Without Sound took shape under far less frenetic circumstances. For more than a year, Baldi was able to write these songs and flesh out them out with his bandmates—drummer Jayson Gerycz and bassist TJ Duke—before they finally joined producer John Goodmanson (Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie) at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas, for three weeks in March of 2016. The result is Baldi’s most polished and considered work to date, an album that speaks to his evolving gift with melody while also betraying the sort of perspective that time provides. You can hear it in the aerodynamic guitar pop of “Modern Act,” and feel it in the devastating wisdom of “Internal World,” a lullaby-like howler that dwells on “the fact that being yourself can be uncomfortable and even potentially dangerous at times.” “Generally, it seems like my work has been about finding my place in the world,” Baldi says. “But there was a point in which I realized that you can be missing something important in your life, a part you didn't realize you were missing until it's there—hence the title. This record is like my version of new age music,” he adds. “It’s supposed to be inspiring.” It is. For our forth release, T4T LUV NRG present an e.p. of two beautiful songs and one evocation by label co-founder, DJ, and producer Octo Octa (Maya Bouldry-Morrison). “She’s Calling” is the third piece in Octo Octa’s two-year exploration of the connection between music and ritual, closing the loop on themes explored on her “For Lovers” ep (Technicolour, 2019) and full-length album “Resonant Body” (T4T LUV NRG, 2019). While many describe dance music in terms of escape, for Octo Octa and many others like her, dance music is about connection. The connections we feel on a dancefloor are transformative, but in time spent alone, dance music remains a powerful tool for connection with nature, with ourselves, and with something ineffable that feels like magic. The title track, “Goddess Calling,” captures a moment of such revelry, a result of the union of sound and ritual. Maya wrote the second song, “Find Your Way Home,” in early 2020, a few weeks before she cancelled her tour and headed back to the States because of the pandemic. She originally intended the title as a metaphor, the journey being internal, but the title would prove to be prescient. She made the song in order to take a trip into herself, to bring herself peace during an intense time. Many religious and mystery traditions employ the use of uttered word formulas as a way to bring something into your life. “Spell for Nature” is Octo Octa asking in her own voice to connect with nature personified in the form of a goddess. The recording is about the moment when she saw something she knew was there all along. When she peaked behind the curtain and found something enveloping and eternal. 关于歌曲专辑《丰饶之锅》 此张专辑收录10首歌曲，由李晓珞创作于2014年，出版于2015年。 多神教时期，凯尔特神话中有“丰饶之锅”，此锅取之不竭，用之不尽，乃繁荣富裕的象征。之后，基督教统一多神教地区后，这锅演变为圣杯。在中国，锅的原初形状为鼎，三足二耳，商代伊尹辅助汤王，从论鼎开始，说万物由鼎出，和味之术即治国之术，所谓治大国若烹小鲜。由此可见，东西方关于锅的传说天然契合，民以食为天，世界出自丰饶之锅，真理出自丰饶之锅。 李晓珞这张专辑，以丰饶之锅的意象为核心，演绎和讲述了《一个字的经历》，《一个人的经历》，她和祖母的代际心路，以及一个弹琵琶的女人在今天唱出的《新琵琶行》的故事，从而完成了当代歌曲在叙述方面的繁重课题。李晓珞的叙述，其价值在于重现人事的精神意义，判断，感叹，线索，和期望完善地交织在一起，既不是民俗的说书演义，也不是史书的鉴真忠实，其容貌神气更接近史诗的吟咏传统，于真实中质疑现实，从世理中拒斥绝对。这一努力，可以被看作“新诗史”的复活。 在新诗史的探索之外，李晓珞在本张专辑里，还致力于通俗腔调的写作尝试。这个观念，并不同于流行歌曲。以古典主义看待流行是一回事，以通俗而不庸俗的姿态看待流行，又是另外一回事。后者更为深刻和彻底地对抗着日常平庸，需要更大的审美勇气和更精湛细心的创作技法。好听，是一个相对的概念，需要唱听双方面共同拓展甚至冲击听觉艺术的界域。我们甘愿接受喧嚣的包围，还是力图以此生鲜活的听力去刺破喧嚣的沉寂？以《只有这么唱才靠近永恒》和《圆缺》为代表的歌曲，堪称“腔主义”歌曲的典范。李晓珞说：“我宁愿用‘腔’这个说法，也不喜欢‘旋律’这个概念。旋律从西洋音乐的本义讲，是对孤立动机的重复回旋，它指向一种保守的习惯声音心理，更多地服从于市侩和小农经济的美学倾向。而腔这个字，体现的是我们与万物之间的呼应，音乐只有在彼此呼应得上的瞬间，才会好听。” 在完成上述“好听”这个愿望的实践中，作者走了一条“回家”的路。与其到外面的花花世界去捕捉荒芜的信息，不如回到腔体内部、靠近心的位置去直达音乐的本质。回家，是回到生命的起点，而不只是文化意义上的回归寻根。文化并无内外之别，也无新旧之分。一切文化，都是对心灵的围剿和固化，都是外在的助力。或者单凭这助力，就必然不知不觉中成了杀力。

“第一次是先有了专辑名字才开始的歌曲创作，然而这也没有帮我们确定内容的框架和边界，大家一如既往的天马行空起来。唯一不同的是在《十万个为什么》创作的两年里，我不像以往那样在意专辑的时间计划和工作的节奏，开始喜欢上了这个过程本身。结果就是更多的时间在不断的试来试去，大部分时间里歌曲本身并没有太多进展，但这帮我解开了很多的“为什么”。就好似“十万个为什么”本来的源头 “One million Hows, two million Wheres，and seven million Whys!”总是有那么多需要弄明白的事情，也只有浸入在这个过程里才能逐渐理清自己的思路吧。 我们一直喜欢做「专辑」而不是「单曲」，因为这需要一段相对长的过程，正是这一相对长的过程赋予了专辑「时间」的烙印。一首歌并不能记录某个阶段相对完整的思考，但一张专辑可以。而对于这张专辑里每一首歌，讲述的又是各自独立的故事，它可以是关于无数的“？”，也可以是关于遥远处依旧需要去探寻的光亮。” 2020 年 9 月 22 日 谢玉岗

Lucy Dacus is done thinking small. Two years after her 2016 debut, No Burden, won her unanimous acclaim as one of rock’s most promising new voices, Dacus returns on March 2 with Historian, a remarkably assured 10-track statement of intent. It finds her unafraid to take on the big questions — the life-or-death reckonings, and the ones that just feel that way. It’s a record full of bracing realizations, tearful declarations and moments of hard-won peace, expressed in lyrics that feel destined for countless yearbook quotes and first tattoos. Dacus and her band recorded the album in Nashville last March, re-teaming with No Burden producer Collin Pastore, and mixed it a few months later with A-list studio wizard John Congleton. The sound they created, with substantial input from multi-instrumentalist and live guitarist Jacob Blizard, is far richer and fuller than the debut — an outward flowering of dynamic, living, breathing rock and roll. Dacus’ remarkable sense of melody and composition are the driving force throughout, giving Historian the immersive feel of an album made by an artist in full command of her powers. The past year, with its electoral disasters and other assorted heartbreaks, has been a rough one for many of us, Dacus included.
