The title says it all. The movements in this black-and-white animation are governed by an echo. The flow of images creates a chain of associations. A pot-bellied creature with a tiny face roams the world. There are also other creatures, similarly pot-bellied, with stilt-like arms. This gives them a mobility which affords them new points of view. The swamp provides shade for their heads, the rhythm of the tambourines makes their bellies sway. The film follows these faceless creatures with minimal movements which focus only on the essentials.

"What a moth might see from birth to death if black were white and white were black." -S.B.

A famous short film that plays with elements of the Futurist art movement: A love story is told completely from the perspective of the feet, shot entirely from the knees down. The new print from the Cineteca Italiana restores the film’s period color tinting.

"This funny individual will make you laugh until your sides ache. He is funny in all his actions, yet when he puts on his shoes you can imagine the noise he can make when he dances an ordinary clog. The shoes referred to are made of some elastic material which enables Little Tich to bow almost to the floor without bending his legs, the spring in the shoes carrying him down and up again. He places his hat on the floor and, leaning over on the toes of his wonderful shoes, dips his head into the hat and comes up without having to move from the spot or to bend his legs. He is a comical looking sight at best, being made up to suit the part, and he will make you laugh whether you want to or not."

In this whimsical and playful film, Bokanowski returns to the complex optical array of pinholes, mirrors, prisms, and refractive substrates of his earlier film, La Plage.

Gai Dimanche is a 1935 three reel film written by and starring Jacques Tati and his friend Rhum. The pair star as down-and-outs (very much their situation in reality at the time) who try to generate funds by providing an impromptu leisure tour in a rickety bus they wangle use of for free. Released in 1935 and rarely seen today, the film offers brief glimpses and hints towards methods Tati would begin to perfect on the big screen a decade later.

Jacques Tati plays a French postman adamant to prove he can be just as fast as American postmen at delivering mail.
