It's not a perfect movie, but this is as good as a Blair Witch sequel could've possibly been. Nothing can top this.

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)I love the sound-design. Sometimes I thought the sounds were coming from nearby. The sound played a major part in the first movie too. And the ending so brutally just leaves you with the grim reality of the situation; no neat resolution or anything. The people behind this movie understood the first film really well. It's just as meta, except instead of it being found-footage, it's a re-enactment. And it certainly looks like one. The main themes are just as much paranoia and confusion, and it's all vague and unreliable narration. Many Blair Witch sequels, like the video games or that godawful Adam Wingard movie, just ruin the lore of the first movie, which was nebulous by intention. In The Blair With Project we don't actually know what happened, we can only theorize. This movie really gets that and continues that tradition. Some of the scares are really sick, and otherwise it cultivates this sense of unease because you feel like anything could happen at any moment.
Also, it's a really good depiction of how retarded Wiccans are.
Oh, and the goth girl is really cool. I feel like we'd hit it off. I hate nature too.
Oh, and a System of a Down song plays at one point, just as a cherry on top. In general the soundtrack seems pretty great, even though I'm generally not a metalhead.
