Something to SNS providers and software can learn from the gaming industry is name filters.
Majority, if not all, online #games implement a RegExp-based or manual input name blocklist. In the socmed landscape, software like Mastodon should implement it to prevent any handles **and** display names with "Mastodon" in it.
Instance admins and moderators should be able to add new entries as they see fit. They can choose between RegExp matching or manual input.
It is an effective way to minimize fake accounts pretending to be the platform, instance, service, and/or software. For example, the Mastodon **software** is currently being bombarded by fake accounts about "Mastodon account verification", with "Mastodon" in either their handle or display name, or both.
Other social media software and platforms should implement it as well. Of course, it is not the ultimate solution, but it at least adds another layer to enable admins and moderators to fight against scammers and phishers pretending to be official accounts or channels.

A friend of mine, @siliconsjang, released SiliconBeest v1.0.0 today. It's a #fediverse server built on #Cloudflare Workers, D1, R2, and Queues, using Fedify.
I like the starting point: after watching fediverse servers go down together during Cloudflare outages, they thought, why not just run on Cloudflare directly?
They're aiming for something cheap enough that a small instance can stay on Cloudflare's free plan, and a somewhat bigger one can fit in the $5/month tier. It's still early; a lot is missing, and Mastodon/Misskey API compatibility is more of a long-term goal.
I'm glad to see Fedify put to use for something like this. Worth checking out.

@fedify/fedify package has been broken up into focused, independent packages: @fedify/vocab, @fedify/vocab-runtime, @fedify/vocab-tools, @fedify/webfinger, and more. Smaller bundles, cleaner imports, and the ability to extend ActivityPub with custom vocabulary types.@fedify/debugger package gives you a live dashboard at /__debug__/ showing all your federation traffic: traces, activity details, signature verification, and correlated logs. Just wrap your Federation object and you're done.@fedify/relay and the fedify relay CLI command. Supports both Mastodon-style and LitePub-style relay protocols (FEP-ae0c).orderingKey option solves the “zombie post” problem where a Delete arrives before its Create. Activities sharing the same key are guaranteed to be delivered in FIFO order.setOutboxPermanentFailureHandler() lets you react when a remote inbox returns 404 or 410, so you can clean up unreachable followers instead of retrying forever.Other changes include content negotiation at the middleware level, @fedify/lint for shared linting rules, @fedify/create for quick project scaffolding, CLI config files, native Node.js/Bun CLI support, and many bug fixes.

I've improved federation support for Lemmy and other servers that support FEP-1b12 Group Federation.
I had to increase the number of available file descriptors on my personal server 4x because of the resultant inbound volume of ActivityPub activities! I liked a federated post and DOSed my server.
Yay! My #Mastodon trifecta is now complete! My blue & orange (is it orange‽) #Plushtodon came in last night, & I opened it yesterday, but I was too tired to post about it as I just got off work.
But yes, I am excited that the two smaller Plushes arrived! Thanks @Mastodon for creating these!
Also…we need more #ActivityPub apps to create real world wearables or plushies, as they are great conversation starters for folks who are not familiar with the #Fediverse.
