A black and white macro photograph of a red elderberry bud opening, with the scales protecting the new tiny leaf spreading apart and resembling horns or antlers on either side of the bud. In the center, the leaf is composed of numerous leaflets still closed into small balls. The other scales protecting the bud are also visible around the edges.

Cold jewel

#macro #abstract #frost #heart #monochrome #blackandwhite #photography

Macro and monochrome photograph of silver frost on a window, with a dark background. The frost looks like silver or crystal, with a metallic shine, like a jewel. I have no idea how but the frost evolved into the shape of a heart at its centre, and all kinds of lines, flowers, and feathers appeared all around it. It makes a poor description, I know. But imagine a silver pendant representing a heart in the centre of an intricate work of art from a talented artist. Only it's nature made.

Flower no 1

My orchid did me the honour of growing a flowering stem with eight buds this winter. First one finally opened today.

#macro #flowers #bloomscrolling #orchid #photography

Macro photograph of the centre of a white orchid flower, with yellow coloration at the base of the petals and on reproductive parts, and red dots and lines around them.

The intricacies of an orchid flower make it quite difficult for macro photography, as nothing is really flat and you need to be very accurate on the exact spot you want in focus.

Hi !

Great mullein (Verbascum thapsus)

I didn't know there were little hairy creatures living in there.

#bloomscrolling #flowers #wildflowers #macro #photography

Macro photograph of an open yellow flower of great mullein, on a light green and hairy spike. Only a couple of flowers are open, the rest are closed buds. The flower has five almost round petals. Two stamens in the middle of the flower have yellow hair and orange anthers, looking like a funny little hairy head with two eyes. Two other stamens under are longer and extended, like two arms with one hand saying hi. Maybe I'm the only one seeing this.
