Ancient heritage sites across #Iran damaged by #US - #Israel bombing

“ #Isfahan is not an ordinary city, it’s a museum without a roof. [...] In none of the previous eras, not in the Afghan wars, not in the Moghul conquest, not even during the ‘sacred defence’ [the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war] was this ever done,” the governor said.

Will @EUCommission @Bundesregierung have the guts to stand up to #Trump and #Netanyahu ?

Close-up of an intricate stucco relief panel from the Nasrid Palaces of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. The center features a circular medallion surrounding a prominent coat of arms. The central shield bears a diagonal band with raised Arabic calligraphy reading the dynastic motto "Wa-la ghaliba illa Allah", which translates to "There is no conqueror but God". The monochrome plasterwork serves as a prime example of the fusion of the three main pillars of Islamic decoration: The floral element (Ataurique) encircles the coat of arms with a lush web of blossoms, leaves, and stems, symbolizing the "Garden of Paradise" and standing for fertility and life. Around this, the geometry (Sebka) dissolves into strict, mathematical interlacing bands, featuring rhomboid shapes and endless knot patterns (stars and crosses) typical of Almohad and Nasrid architecture. Finally, the epigraphy (calligraphy) along the edge of the circle and in the corners features stylized, letter-like ornaments that create a fluid transition between script and plant motifs.

Close-up of an intricate Moorish wooden ceiling panel (Artesonado) from the Alhambra, crafted in the Mudéjar or Nasrid style. The image displays a highly complex geometric wood inlay technique where raised, concentric wooden bands interlace to form an endless network of multi-pointed stars, rhombuses, and polygons. An eight-pointed star configuration grounds the center. The recessed spaces between the wooden beams are adorned with shimmering leaf gold gilding and hand-painted floral arabesque motifs (Ataurique). Along the edges of the golden fields, fine lines of tiny white dotted patterns resemble mother-of-pearl or bone inlays, adding dramatic depth and texture to the rich brown woodwork.

Strong sunlight filters through the parallel slats of the overhead structure, casting a dramatic pattern of striped shadows across the stone pathway below. To the left and center, dense clusters of oversized, broad-leafed plants and smaller shrubs crowd the edges of the walkway. On the right, prominent fan palms with ribbed, spreading fronds catch the bright light, creating a stark contrast against the dark background foliage. The entire scene is rendered in high-contrast black and white, emphasizing the rich textures of the concrete, stone pavement, and varied plant life.

Scenes from the Kumano Kodo's Nakahechi route 1/3

#StreetPhoto #Photography #BlackAndWhitePhotography #Monochrome #Japan #Wakayama #KumanoKodo #Nakahechi #JapanPhotography #JapanTravel #HikingJapan #PilgrimageTrail #UNESCO #NachiFalls #EverydayJapan

Visitors look out from a railed viewpoint toward the three-storey Seiganto-ji pagoda on the Kumano Kodo in Wakayama, Japan. Nachi Falls drops in a long narrow cascade down a forested cliff face behind the pagoda. Steps, manicured gardens, and scattered visitors fill the grounds below.

A person seated in a chair on a wooden deck gazes out through a screened sliding door at a panoramic view of layered green mountain ridges disappearing into a pale sky. Shot in black and white through the mesh of the screen.

Rows of low tea bushes lead toward a traditional Japanese farmhouse almost entirely engulfed by thick climbing vines and overgrown vegetation. Bamboo and cedar trees rise behind it on a hillside.

Hikers pick their way through a densely planted cedar forest on the Kumano Kodo. Dozens of tall straight trunks rise from a slope littered with fallen logs. The figures are small against the scale of the forest.

Scenes from the Kumano Kodo's Nakahechi route 2/3

A woman hiker on the Kumano Kodo trail smiles at the camera. She wears a cap, a white t-shirt, a running vest, and carries a fully loaded backpack with a water bottle. Trees and a forest path are visible behind her.

A small group of hikers rests at a rural bus stop on a highway in Wakayama. One sits on the grass, one sits on the bench, one stands with arms crossed, and two others stand to the right sorting gear. A green road sign in the background points toward Shirahama and Tanabe.

An older man sits on a low stone wall outside a temple on the Kumano Kodo, a white towel draped around his neck, wearing sandals and dark trousers. Traditional temple buildings and trees are visible behind him.

The ornate wooden entrance of a small Shinto shrine on the Kumano Kodo. A thick rope hangs from a bell above the closed doors, which are reached by a short flight of steps. Decorative carvings of dragons and scrollwork are painted along the eaves. Stone walls and forest are visible on either side.

A kimono displayed on a hanger outside a rural property in Wakayama, with a handwritten price tag reading Kimono ¥3000. Corrugated metal fencing, bamboo trees, and a hillside are visible behind it.

Two hikers — a man holding a camera and a woman — are reflected together in a small convex traffic mirror mounted at the edge of a rural road on the Kumano Kodo. Ferns and broad-leafed plants frame the mirror.
