Saxophone Colossus is one of Sonny Rollins' most acclaimed albums. Recorded in June 1956 and released in April 1957, it has been awarded a rare Crown by The Penguin Guide to Jazz, and is widely considered the masterpiece of his mid-1950s series of recordings for Prestige Records and one of the greatest albums ever issued on that label.

Love Devotion Surrender is an album released in 1973 by guitarists Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin, with the backing of their respective bands, Santana and The Mahavishnu Orchestra. The album was inspired by the teachings of Sri Chinmoy and intended as a tribute to John Coltrane. It contains two Coltrane compositions, two McLaughlin songs, and a traditional gospel song arranged by Santana and McLaughlin. It was certified Gold in 1973. In 2003, Love Devotion Surrender was released on CD with alternative versions as bonus tracks. Santana and McLaughlin toured in 1973 and 1974 to support the album.

Birds of Fire is the second studio album by jazz fusion band the Mahavishnu Orchestra. It was released on January 3, 1973 by Columbia Records and is the last studio album released by the original band line-up before it dissolved. As with the group's previous album, The Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire consists solely of compositions by John McLaughlin. These include the track "Miles Beyond (Miles Davis)", which McLaughlin dedicated to his friend and former bandleader. The back cover of the album features the poem "Revelation" by Sri Chinmoy.

Weather Report之於Fusion(融合爵士)，就幾乎相當於Miles Davis五重奏之於Cool School(酷派爵士)一般，這支樂團不但是Fusion的開路先鋒之一，他們在創作，演奏及概念呈現部份，為整個Fusion樂派的發展描繪出清晰創新的行進路線：此外，也和Miles Davis五重奏一樣，樂團中每一位樂手在單飛之後，都在爵士樂壇上各自佔有一席之地－尤其是鍵盤樂手Joe Zawinul，以及後來為Miles Davis 所重用的薩克斯風手Wayne Shorter。 氣象報告樂團(Weather Report)1970年代最具影響力的融合爵士樂團之一，與John Mclaughlin領軍的Mahavishnu Orchestra、Chick Corea帶領的Return To Forever堪稱融合爵士三大樂團，也是壽命最長、藝術成就最高的爵士樂團。氣象報告成立於1970年，樂團中兩位靈魂人物Wayne Shorter和Joe Zawinul原是邁爾斯戴維士(Miles Davis)陣中的大將，與Miroslav Vitous、Dom um Romao等人合作創立WR，和後來加入的Peter Erskine、Jaco Pastorius等樂手致力拓展爵士樂範疇，舉凡搖滾、放克、拉丁音樂等各樂種他們皆嘗試融入爵士即興演奏中，企圖在樂手的對話與編曲中創造出嶄新的音樂型態。 一九七六年，備受注目的天才型樂手傑可．帕斯瑞斯(Jaco Pastorius)加入，更將氣象報告樂團推向另外一個高峰，在藝術與商業上皆獲得巨大的成功，專輯連年贏得Down Beat年度「最佳專輯」的榮耀，也獲得葛萊美獎「最佳融合爵士演奏」獎項，直到1986年解散前，氣象報告在樂壇一直扮演舉足輕重的角色。

Willie Hugh Nelson is an American musician, actor, and activist. The critical success of the album Shotgun Willie, combined with the critical and commercial success of Red Headed Stranger and Stardust, made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music.

On March 26, 1972, David Crosby and Graham Nash, always ready to lend a hand to help a worthy cause, headlined the This Sheriff's Benefit Concert to help raise awareness of prisoner issues. The show also featured local groups Earth Rise and Stoneground, as well as Elvin Bishop. Crosby & Nash had just finished recording their self titled debut album, which included such songs as Southbound Train, And So It Goes and Immigration Man. Nash has also recently recorded a solo disc, Songs For Beginners, which featured such classic tunes as Military Madness and Chicago. Three songs into the show, Neil Young joined Crosby and Nash, a wonderful surprise as the 3 had not performed together since CSNY finished touring in 1970. It would be another 2 years before the foursome would reunite for a memorable, but turbulent, tour in 1974. In the interim, fans had to be thankful for unannounced reunions such as this one.
