The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is a studio album by American jazz musician Charles Mingus, released on Impulse! Records in 1963. The album consists of a single continuous composition—partially written as a ballet—divided into four tracks and six movements

Monk's Dream is the first album jazz musician Thelonious Monk released on Columbia Records. It was issued in 1963. [1] "Bye-Ya" and "Bolivar Blues" were recorded on October 31, 1962; "Body and Soul" and "Bright Mississippi" on November 1; "Sweet and Lovely", "Just a Gigolo" and "Monk's Dream" on November 2; and "Five Spot Blues" on November 6. "Bright Mississippi" is the only track on the album that Monk had not previously recorded. "Bolivar Blues" was originally titled "Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are", and had been on Monk's 1957 Riverside album, Brilliant Corners. "Five Spot Blues" was originally called "Blues Five Spot" and had first appeared on the album Misterioso, which was recorded live at the Five Spot Cafe in New York in 1958 and released on Riverside. "Monk's Dream", "Bye-Ya", and "Sweet and Lovely" had also been previously recorded by Monk for Prestige Records at a session ten years earlier.

The tracks are ordered by the number of beats per bar, starting with "It's a Raggy Waltz" and "Bluette" in 3/4; "Charles Matthew Hallelujah", a tribute to his newborn son, in 4/4; "Far More Blue" and "Far More Drums" in 5/4; "Maori Blues" in 6/4; "Unsquare Dance" in 7/4; "Bru's Boogie Woogie" in 8/8; and concluding with "Blue Shadows in the Street" in 9/8. The time signatures are listed on the album's cover, where they are referred to as "tempos". Like Time Out, Time Further Out's cover features a work of modern art: a painting by Catalan-Spanish artist Joan Miró.

Her fiery red and yellow photo-manipulated hair and bandaged finger stand in stark contrast to the orderly mysticism conveyed on the front of her previous release, DAYS OF OPEN HAND. Producer MitchellFroom surrounds her strong songs with surprises in instrumentation, arrangement, and mix. The set opens smartly with a couple of selections that stand in stark contrast to the more traditional folk bearing of her previous output. By the third song, "In Liverpool", things break open to reveal a lushand popish heart. The title song is a dazzling groove of fuzzy and staccato guitar chords cast over layered percussion and her lilting vocal. An array of superb players, includingdrummer Jerry Marotta, guitarists David Hidalgo and RichardThompson, and bass player Bruce Thomas accompany her. While it represented a bit of an unexpected turn at the time of its release in 1992, 99.9 F is one of Vega's finest albums. Universal.
