Big Science is the 1982 debut album by avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson and the first of a 7-album deal she signed with Warner Bros. Records. It is best known for the 8-minute epic "O Superman", which reached #2 in the UK. The album is minimalist and monochrome in sound, and like a great deal of Anderson's work is based largely on spoken word. It is a selection of highlights from her eight-hour production, United States Live, which was itself released as a 5-LP box set and book in 1984. United States Live was originally a performance piece, in which music was only one element. After Big Science music played a larger role in Anderson's work.

In the 1970s lower Manhattan's Max's Kansas City was the place to be, a perpetual meeting place for scene-makers and their satellites. In the summer of '70, The Velvet Underground was the house band, and their nightly gigs, propelled by Lou Reed's mesmerizing vocals, are the stuff of legend. Documented on a cassette player by one of the Velvet's entourage, this recording has since become the most famous "bootleg" ever, capturing one of Reed's last-some say final-performances with the band before going solo. It both immortalizes a precise moment in pop culture history, and also spotlights one of rock's most influential bands at the peak of their extraordinary powers.

Penny Sparkle, the New York trio's follow-up to 2007's 23, arrives September 14 in the U.S. and a day earlier everywhere else, via 4AD. The band recorded Penny Sparkle in New York and Stockholm, working with Fever Ray producers Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid, whose synth-heavy background should have an interesting effect on Blonde Redhead's luxuriant guitar clangor. Shoegaze legend Alan Moulder mixed, just as he did for 23. In a press release, frontwoman Kazu Makino, in typically impenetrable form, had this to say about the album: "I fell in love with the music like falling for someone you've known for a long time. It was dreamy and sometimes was very stormy. At times I felt like a shepherd who was trying to herd five stallions into a yard (unsuccessfully). I felt like I was a link to everyone. I remained still and the others were constantly moving around it. I am not sure what Penny Sparkle is but I hope I offered to them as much as they offered me. I know that we have never made a record this way and if I could go back in time, I would do it exactly the same way again."

Poems, Prayers & Promises is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter John Denver. It was released in April, 1971. This album was Denver's commercial breakthrough, and contained several of his most popular songs, such as "Poems, Prayers, and Promises", "My Sweet Lady", "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", and "Take Me Home, Country Roads", which would become one of Denver's signature songs.
